I was unable to reach the following people Gladys Reinert Aungst, Betty Lee Daubenspeck Carl, Nancy Ogden Carson, Gertrude Flagg Dalzell, Ann Wikel Hausman, Barbara Gill Jesser, Annabelle Sunderland Kepler, Betty Jane Foehl Tomaselli, and Peg Traver Emery. I was able or each a few of our classmates. But I guess since we are all over the age of 95, we may not be on earth anymore. Milly Geiple Hufnagel still lives in her own home. But she does have the company of her son living with her. Marilyn Barnett lives by herself. She reports she doesn’t have much to report. Janet Coblentz Cover lives in a retirement center. She likes living there. I talked with the daughter of Edna Iason Louis. She did not have too much to report either. Phyllis Fine Soza told me her husband passed away last December. I, Jean Wheatley Hilchuk, live in a retirement center. I have been here for 12 years. I enjoy living here. It is similar to living in a dorm, we all have our own apartments. There are many interesting programs provided for us. I play bridge six times a week. We have water gym class twice a week. Helen Stottler Leaver was not on my list but she lives in her own home. She is busy doing things to help other people.

It was reported that we still have 25 classmates living. But, I am inclined not to believe that figure. I have tried to contact anyone who gave Hood their phone number. However, many of those phones numbers do not answer or are phones that have been canceled. Those that did not answer or were canceled are these: Gladys Reinert Aungst, Betty Daubenspeck Carl, Nancy Ogden Carson, Gert Flagg Dalzell, Ann Wikel Hausman, Barbara Gill Jesser, Annabelle Sunderland Kepler, Mary Lou Chorley Touart, and Betty Foehl Tomaselli. Those who I talked to are the following. Mal Barnett reported that she had nothing to report. Janet Coblentz Cover resides in a retirement center in Frederick. She has a few dental problems. She is enjoying the new adult coloring books. Peg Traver Emery was in the process of having a garage sale. Her son and daughter in law live with her. Mildred Geiple Hufnagel has her son living with her. But she too has nothing to report. Mary Alice Knobloch Smith lives in a retirement center. She enjoys her bridge and the activities that the center provides. Phyllis Fine Soza reports that she is losing her eyesight. I, Jean Wheatley Hilchuk, also live in a retirement center and have been here for 12 years. I use the pool as often as possible. It is the only place I can walk by myself. A doctor ruined my legs and I use a scooter in the hallways. I can take it on our buses and go shopping. In my apartment, I use a walker and ride it backwards. We have a lot of activities here. It is something like being back in a college dorm. But I have a two bedroom apartment that looks over our swimming pool and wooded area. Helen Stottler Leaver lives alone. She is always busy helping other people. She is still in touch with all of her kids.

Mary Lou Chorley Touart is still living in a retirement center. She talked with Margie Muth Alibasah– she now has two great grandchildren that are twins. Margie is mostly bed ridden. Mal Barnett lives alone. She reported she was retired and did nothing. Betty Lee Daubenspeck Carl has a busy day. She golfs, plays bingo and has her daily cocktail. Nancy Ogden Carson had been in an infirmary and was leaving for her retirement home that day. Janet Coblentz Cover is upset daily by the news that is being reported on the TV. Gert Flagg Dalzell fell three months ago. So she is in the process of moving to a retirement center. Peg Traver Emery lives in her own home. Her son and daughter-in-law came to see her one day. They live on the west side of Florida. They are now busy painting her house. Millie Geiple lost her son and a granddaughter. Annabelle Sunderland Kepler crashed her car into a building. Mary Knobloch Smith plays a lot of bridge. Phyllis Fine Soza and husband are still in a retirement center. Helen Stottler Leaver stays very busy working and helping others. She lives in her own home. I am still living in independent living in a retirement center. I ride an electric scooter for the halls. I ride my walker backwards in my apartment. The only place I can walk is in the pool. I called everyone who had listed their phone number with Hood. Those who no longer had an active phone were Mal Barnett and Betty Jane Foehl Tomaselli. Therefore I was unable to reach them. Emma Vonderheide Rhoderick passed away April 20, 2016. Barbara “Bobbie” Gill Jesser moved to a senior care residence in Connecticut. She has a one-bedroom apartment, still drives and all is well. She was about to celebrate Christmas with all of her family who live nearby. She says best wishes for 2017!” Margie Muth Alibasah was reported to have twin great-grandchildren. Chorley reported this info. Betty Lee Daubenspeck Carl still drives her own car. Her day is spent playing golf and bridge and at happy hour. Nancy Ogden Carson lost her husband this past year. She has a cat named Pumpkin, which occupies part of her time. Janet Coblentz Cover lives in a retirement center in Frederick. Gert Flagg Dalzell has given up driving. She still lives in her own home, but she did fall and break her wrist this past year. Milly Geiple Hufnagel lives in her own home. Her son lives with her. Her daughter died this last year as she was given the wrong medication. Mary Alice Knobloch Smith lives in her own home. She still drives and plays bridge. In the last year her immediate family had a reunion. There were 62 people in attendance. Phyllis Fine Soza and her husband lived in an assisted living place. Her husband has a wheelchair, and she has a walker. Mary Lou Chorley Touart is also in a retirement home. She still works on their magazine. Two of her daughters are actresses. As for myself, I too live in a retirement center. I am in the independent living section. I play bridge for entertainment about six times a week. I go in the pool daily as that is the only place I can walk. I use a mobile scooter in the halls. In my apartment I use a walker and ride it backwards. Peg Traver Emery and her daughter came to see me. She lives on the west coast of Florida. She lives in her own home. Her son lives with her. Edna Iason Louis lives in her own home. Hood sent me the names of thirty of us for me to contact to see what we are up to doing these days.  Thirteen of us were able to respond.  Most of the phones rang but there was no answer to my call.  The only phone call that had been discontinued was that of Emma Vonderheide Rhoderick.  Marilyn Barnett is still living in New Orleans.  She reported that she really didn’t do much of anything.  But at least she knew what she was talking about.  Betty Lee Daubenspeck Carl does play gold and bridge.  Janet Louise Coblentz Cover is living in Frederick in a retirement center.  She says she is in the assisted living section.  There are several other Hood grads that she has met there.  Gertrude Flagg Dalzell is still living in her own home.  She continues to attend meetings and does quite a bit of reading.  Anne Schwab Dulabahn is also in a retirement center.  She uses a walker and does not drive anymore.  She wishes that her daughters lived nearby, but they live in D.C. and California.  Margaret Traver Emery lives in her own home and has a son, Nelson, living with her.  She is planning a trip to Texas and then to New Jersey to visit her family.  She then intends to sell her home and settle someplace else.  Mildred Geiple Hufnagel lives in her own home.  Her son lives with his mother.  She keeps busy with the usual activities.  Annabelle Sunderland Kepler still drives and lives in her own home.  That seems to be quite the thing for one of our age.  Betty Jane Black Newport lives in her own home too.  She has meals on wheels delivered to her.  Way to go Betty.  Phyllis Carts Searle has a caregiver with her to see her needs.  Mary Alice Knobloch Smith is one of our active ones.  She plays duplicate bridge.  She has family near her which is great.  Mary Lou Chorley Touart is in a retirement center also.  She has retired from the job she had as an editor of their paper.  Her family keeps in touch with her.  Gladys Reinert Aungst called from Newport News.  She still lives in her home.  Her daughter is staying with her.  She no longer drives and uses a walker to help get around.  Well, that is the classmates I heard from.  Hope it brings you up to date.  As for myself, I am living in a retirement center which is near where I lived on the golf course.  I am unable to walk with the exception of walking to the pool which I do daily.  So I ride these long halls in my electric scooter.  The three members of our class that died this past year are: Mildred Easterbrook Patzig, Marilyn Jane Fowler Orth, and Helen Jacqueline Wright.

Mal Barnett states she has nothing to report. Margaret Traver Emery is planning on selling her house and changing her location. Her son Nelson is with her at this time. Mildred Geiple Hufnagel’s granddaughter is coming for a visit. Her son lost part of his leg. Betty Black Newport is back in her own home. She is receiving meals on wheels. Millie Easterbrook Patzig is still in her lovely home in North Carolina. She has help come in to help her. Emma Vonderheide Rhoderick is enjoying her new home on the Chesapeake Bay. She is near her son.  Phyllis Fine Soza and her husband are doing well. They take walks, but they are not as long as they used to be. Janet Louise Coblentz Cover is still in Frederick living in a retirement center.  She wishes that more of us had come to our 70th reunion. Erma Stull Grove, Ginny Gambrill Hendrickson, P’72 and Buelah Munshower Sommer that lived at the same retirement center have all passed away in the last year. Nancy Ogden Carson and her husband live in a retirement center in New Jersey.  Their daughter who lives in Montana is coming for a visit. Gert Flagg Dalzell still lives in her home. She drives in the local area, but does not make long trips. Mary Lou Chorley Touart has two daughters that are actresses. Mary Lou is still editor of their local paper at her retirement center. Gladys Reinert Aungst broke her hip. Helen Stottler Leaver has started her biography. Jean Wheatley Hilchuk is in a retirement center in Florida and goes in the outdoor pool daily as that is the only place she can walk.

Marilyn Barnett is alive in New Orleans but states she has nothing to report. Betty Lee Daubenspeck Carl is very active.  Betty still plays golf, bridge and enjoys a cocktail hour. Nancy Ogden Carson and her husband live in a retirement center and enjoy life there with all the activities. Several of their children live nearby. Janet Louise Coblentz Cover was one of our two classmates that attended our 70th reunion in June. I am going to call her back so we can share more news. Gertrude Flagg Dalzell still lives alone in her own home with her son. She has another son that lives close by and she still drives. Anne Schwab Dulabahn has sold her home and moved to a retirement center. She has given up driving. Peg Traver Emery’s husband passed away and she is selling her home and moving to her sons in Texas. Ann Wikel Hausman is now in a retirement center and has sons close by. Mildred Geiple Hufnagel still drives. One son lives with her and another lives close by. Annabelle Sunderland Kepler still lives in her own home. Her husband died five years ago. She too is still driving. Mim Fowler Orth still lives in her own home. Her son lives close by and takes her where she needs to go as she no longer drives. Mildred Patzig remains in her lovely home in the N.C. mountains. She has help come in daily to help her. But she is alone at night. Emma M. Vonderheide Rhoderick has moved to a new home on the Cheaspeake Bay next to her son. The view is great she says. She will enjoy it more when she finishes unpacking. Phyllis Carts Searle lives by herself but people pick her up all the time as she is not driving. Mary Alice Knobloch Smith‘s husband died this past December. She still plays bridge and has several children that live close by which is nice. Phylliss Fine Soza reported that her brother Harold died last month. He and I were in elementary school in third grade. Phylliss told me that she is blind. I was not aware of this. Mary Lou Chorley Touart is busy as ever. Her girls are doing well; one is an actress and one and artist. Mary Lou is still at her retirement center, but is moving to smaller quarters. Helen Stottler Leaver has resigned as treasurer of an organization so she will have more time to work on the history of family. That takes a lot of work as I did that 10-years-ago. I, Jean Wheatley Hilchuk, gave my car to my nephew as I am no longer driving. It was probably the best thing as I cannot walk alone. I ride my scooter around the halls of my retirement center.

Marilyn Barnett had nothing to report. She was gathering stuff that needed to be saved and throwing out stuff that needed to go. Peg Traver Emery’s husband was in the hospital and her son was there with her. Elisabeth Shaw Herms lives in a retirement home. She plays the piano for the group there, walks two miles a day and rides her bike three miles. Milly Geiple Hufnagel’s son lives with her and her other children, Jim and Joan, live close by. Millie still drives. Barbara Gill Jesser reported that she has very little gray hair and has three great-grandchildren. Mary Caulkins Johnson lives in a retirement center. There is plenty there to keep her busy. Betty Black Newport is still living in her house alone. She has given up on driving. Her son was home for Christmas as his wife had died. The whole family was together for the holidays and Betty prepared the meals for everyone. Mim Fowler Orth is still in her home. She has given up driving as her son lives close by. Millie Easterbrook Patzig resides in her home alone. She has someone come in to help her fix meals. Her daughter, who lives in Texas, was with her for Memorial Day. Gert Flagg Dalzell lives in her home. Her son who lives nearby had a stroke this past year and she has been taking care of him. He is doing very well now. Gert still drives. Anne Schwab Dulabahn has moved to a smaller place and is selling her house. Ann Wikel Hausman has a son that lives close by. Nancy Ogden Carson is enjoying good health. She lives in a retirement home. Her son from Maryland was expected for a visit. Her daughter lives in Montana. Phyllis Fine Soza is losing her sight, but she still enjoys working in her garden. Mary Lou Chorley Touart is proud of her children and grandchildren. She had not heard from Marge Muth Alibasah lately and was going to try and reach her. Mary Lou is still in charge of her retirement’s newspaper. Janet Coblentz Cover is in assisted living now. She attended our 70th reunion in June. Beulah Munshower Sommer also attended reunion. She really enjoys her place of retirement. I heard from Marge Muth Alibasah. She wishes all good health. Her health is not too good, but she has family near her all of the time. If I, Jean Wheatley Hilchuk, lived closer to Hood, I would have attended reunion. I still drive, but cannot walk without aid except in our wonderful pool that is heated year round. Florida weather is great.

Janet Coblentz Cover is living at a retirement center in Frederick and she reported that Erma Stull Grove and Ginnie Gambrill Hendrickson are there, too.  However, the latter two are not doing too well. Peg Traver Emery is living in Florida and her children had visited. Her husband is not too well and has blood clots in his leg. Mal Barnett reported from New Orleans that she is still kicking. Betty Lee Daubenspeck Carl is still playing golf, bridge and driving a car. Her sister-in law Carolyn Carl Bradey died this year. Nancy Ogden Carson has a new cat. She and her husband live in a retirement center and she has children that live close to by. Millie Geiple Hufnagel’s son lives with her and she is still driving a car. Betty Black Newport still lives in her own home. Her granddaughter was visiting in early November from California and at Christmas she was expecting her whole family to be with her––she was looking forward to that. Mim Fowler Orth was dog sitting for her son who lives close by and she still drives. “I, Jean Wheatley Hilchuk, am still driving even though I cannot walk without assistance. I exercise in the pool where I am able to walk alone.” Millie Easterbrook Patzig is still living in her home. She has those that come in to take care of things that she is unable to do for herself. Glady’s Reinhert husband died in February. Gert Flag still drives and plays bridge.

Gladys Reinert Aungst is busy taking care of her husband and the whole family is there to help. Marilyn Barnett is still living in New Orleans. She gave up tennis in 1982. She has two cats to keep her company. Betty Lee Daubenspeck Carl lives in Florida. She still drives and plays golf and bridge. Nancy Ogden and her husband live in a wonderful retirement place in New Jersey. Her family is close by. Gertrude Flagg Dalzell is in her own home and is busy repairing it; she lives in North Carolina. Anne Schwab Dulabahn is in Ohio and still in her own home. Peg Traver Emery is living in Florida and very glad that they sold their home in New Jersey. Anne Wikel Hausman is in Pennsylvania and has had too many falls. She is getting physical therapy and is constantly moving from one section to another.

Mildred Geiple Hufnagel lives in Pennsylvania in her own home. She is still driving and her son lives with her. Annabelle Sunderland Kepler is in Hagerstown, Md., and she still drives. Beverly Langhorne Kirill lives in Jacksonville, Fla., across the street from her daughter. Her son-in-law is a doctor, so she is well looked after. Janet Sultner Lambert is in Tennessee. She is confined to her bed; she is able to stand but is unable to sit. Betty Black Newport is still in her own home. She is considering giving up driving. Marilyn Fowler Orth lives in her own home in Jacksonville, Fla. Her son stops by daily to see her as he is close by. Ethel Libbey Page’s daughter informed me that Ethel died on Nov. 15, 2012. Mildred Easterbrook Patiz is still in her home. She has someone come in to see to her needs. It seems like most of us are using a walker these days. Phyllis Carts Searle is still in her own home. She is no longer driving and has a vision problem.

Beulah Munshower Sommer does a lot of traveling. More power to you. Phyllis Fine Soza is also not driving due to a vision problem. Mary Lou Chorley Touart is living in a retirement center and is in charge of their paper there. She has five granddaughters nearby. I, Jean Wheatley Hilchuk, am on a walker due to poor surgery. I have had four hip replacements and one knee replaced twice. However, I still drive. I have been in the pool 133 times. Right now, we are waiting for them to fix the heater to the pool. I have played bridge 182 times this year. Certainly glad I moved one mile from my home seven years ago to this great retirement center. I talked with Janet Coblentz Cover and she informed me that three of our classmates are residing at Homewood in Crumland Farms. They are Ginny Gambrill Hendrickson, Erma Stull and Janet. She is still involved in activities dealing with Hood College. She is thinking about giving up driving. Mary Caulkins Johnson and husband are living in a retirement center in California. Barbara Gill Jesser is in Florida and still drives and plays golf.
