Hello class of 1982! I am so thrilled to hear from some new voices and appreciate the quick reply. Susan Raffaele McHenry and husband Geoff will be empty nesters this Fall. Their twins are heading off to college in Ohio and South Carolina; their oldest child is a senior at William & Mary and hopes to go to medical school. Susan has volunteered and been involved in her children’s activities for many years! She might return to work at some day but is currently caring for her parents as they both battle cancer. A family trip to Cabo San Lucas is planned for the summer and a trip to France in the Fall. Keeping the days busy is Susan’s goal to fill the void at home. Summer 2019 marks the one year anniversary of a state of the sport 8 court indoor tennis center on the NJ shore (parkavetennis.com) where Elizabeth “Bambi” Maitland Grundwerg and husband are co-developers. The first year is looking good! Bambi has plans to travel to Portland, OR late summer to celebrate Linda Esterhoy Segur’s birthday with Anne Connal Biron and a girls week on the NW wine trail and beach! Life is good in Cincinnati for Dawson Casey Bullock! The kids are off the payroll! Her oldest, Caroline, completed her masters in biomedical engineering and is employed by a clinical trial company. Daughter Gibson recently moved to Milwaukee to begin her job in the marketing field. While husband John travels a lot, Dawson still runs her own business and a staff of seven. “Designs by Dawson” is an invitation, stationery, and gift store in Cincinnati. Her mother, Ann “Corky” Pattison Casey ’53, recently passed away. After discovering her mother’s Hood ring, Dawson proudly wore it to her mother’s service. Proud to know that Hood played a big part of her mother’s life and influenced lifelong friendships. If ever in Cincinnati call Dawson! Joy Miller Beveridge continues to enjoy serving on the Alumni Executive Board with the new Director of Alumni and Constituent Engagement, Kellye Greenwald ’86, and on the Board of Associates with Magaly Maurus Green ’74, Co-Chair and Emily VanderWoude, Director of Leadership Giving.  She would love to hear from other local alum who have time to volunteer at many local events where we engage with the students and with the community, both on and off campus.  Husband Don and Joy have been traveling more often to Arizona and California, visiting children and two granddaughters… retirement is looking better all the time, but no time soon!  They look forward to their annual trip to the Kennett Square area where they enjoy the Labor Day weekend with Elizabeth Bastian Chapin and Chip Chapin, while celebrating the lives of Elizabeth LePatourel Powell ’50 and Mary Hendershot Bastian ’50, once again united! After a tough 2018, Jackie McDaniel West is celebrating her 59th year all year long! 2019 has been filled with travel, concerts, family and friends! Her birthday celebration began in Nashville with friends and was joined by Christy Belisle Fitzgerald. Family visits in Louisville, a few days in St. Michaels MD with Glynnis Edwards Cowdery, a family trip to Alaska and a girls trip to Wimbledon are now memories! She has renewed friendships with Kim Keeney and Amy Blades Steward. Not only did they all attend Hood but they spent their high school years together! Kim and Amy have been a tremendous support to Jackie while she helps care for her sister who suffers from Alzheimers. Life is too short so Jackie is embracing experiences and friends. Focus on the positive! “Be where your feet are.” Back in January, Gretchen Steinmetz Keith and I, Elizabeth Bastian Chapin, attended the Hood/Albright basketball games in Reading, PA. We had a fun time cheering on the Blazer men and women with Kellye Greenwald ’86 and Hood’s athletic director Dr. Susan Kolb. I manage to keep travelling or I’m on the go when not in the office. Despite a desired better work/life balance, work hard, play hard is my motto!  Thanks to all who contributed to the column this issue. I hope to hear from more of you in the future. Barb Koiro Daye and family are all doing well. She and husband Mike, their 2 children, Mike and Eliza, and 3 grandchildren all live in Frederick! Barb is still recovering from shoulder surgery in October 2018. Husband Mike retired in June after 30 years with the Frederick County BOE. Not only is he a house husband, but he has been a good nurse to not so good patient Barb! The two travel quite a bit and look forward to their next adventure-a Panama Canal trip in December! 2018 was a busy year professionally for Bambi Maitland Grundwerg!  She finally “retired” from a globe-trotting IBM role after 21 years and settled into what she hopes will be her last job as a product marketing leader with a local central NJ software company.  And just to keep things interesting, she and her husband built a big tennis center on the Jersey Shore with a number of other investors — literally from the ground up.  It’s been open since August and they are looking forward to a winter full of good “indoor tennis” weather.   Also in August, Bambi was lucky to spend an afternoon in the Finger Lakes (NY) with Anne Connal Biron, Barb Jamison Berman, her husband Marc and daughter Jamie.  It was so good to reconnect! Joy Miller Beveridge continues to get together with Liz Bastian Chapin throughout the year and with Elizabeth “Baz” Lepatourel Powell ’50 on Labor Day.  Her new ‘grand-joy’ Annabeth Lee joined Lydia James in Arizona, daughters of Danny and Tricia Beveridge. Kendall remains in San Francisco and employed by Facebook.  Don continues to enjoy retirement and the expansion of his outdoor veggie and flower gardens, and his indoor azalea and rhododendron grow room. Joy is still at the Frederick National Lab (17 years and counting) and facilitates the collaboration between the Lab and Hood – summer plans include an intern in quantitative science at the Lab, and a scientific symposium on imaging in cancer biology at Hood.  Joy enjoys her continued connection with Hood by serving on the Alumni Executive Board and the Board of Associates… hoping to see more alums participating in volunteer opportunities and community events! Sad news of the passing of dear family friend Elizabeth LePatourel Powel ’50 in January 2019. The close friendship formed at Hood between “Baz” and my mother, Mary Hendershot Bastian ’50 continued through the years and passed through generations. “Baz” as she was called was also affectionately known as “Granny P” to my children and many others. Our annual Labor day weekend gatherings included many Hood friends, F&M friends and extended friends and family. She is reunited with the Hood gals now! Liz Bastian Chapin just celebrated with Gretchen Steinmetz Keith for her birthday! Both live in Reading, PA so they get together fairly regularly!  She continues to work long hours at the local AAA as a travel consultant. Had a terrific trip to Cuba in September 2018 and looks forward to some new adventures in 2019! Hoping to make some home renovations in the New Year as well. Later in January Liz, along with Carol Eisenberg Miller ’64 and some other Hood alumni in the Reading area plan to cheer on the Blazers when they play Albright and Alvernia in basketball! Always appreciate hearing from you! Take care – Liz Bastian Chapin.

The column is a little light this issue…. Meg Brown McGinn spent a June afternoon and lunch with dear Hood roommate, Glynnis Edwards Cowdery, while she was in town visiting her mom. Meg is currently working as a Development Associate for The Arc of Litchfield County. Her husband of almost 36 years is starting his 16th year with TSA (after 25 years in the Navy).
Their son Matthew, 20, is studying Political Science at Roger Williams University – entering his junior year in the Fall.

Joy Miller Beveridge and Elizabeth Bastian Chapin continue to get together throughout the year and are looking forward to spending Labor Day weekend with Elizabeth LePatourel Powell ’50 in Kennett Square, PA. Joy and husband Don often travel to Phoenix and San Francisco to visit children/grandchild. Joy has no plans to retire soon, perhaps another 5-7 years at Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. (which operates the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research). In May, Dr. Chapdelaine announced the formal, 3-year partnership with the FNL to cohost an annual scientific symposium and to expand research and training opportunities for Hood students… a win-win for these two great Frederick institutions! For the second summer, Joy was a member of a team participating in the Hood/Frederick Memorial Hospital Resource Garden. Last year, the garden produced over 2,000 pounds of fresh vegetables for Frederick seniors.

Jodi Palmer Murphy along with Lisa Bodamer Kida and Suzanne Norris Driscoll are travelling on the Hood sponsored trip to Scotland in August. A good time is sure to be had!

Jacquelyn McDaniel West started off the year with a fabulous trip to Hawaii (Maui and Kauai). Her son moved to Louisville KY in February so there have been numerous visits including help with his new house. Jackie’s daughter graduated from Elon University in May and the family celebrated with a trip to St. Lucia! Travels this year also include Wimbledon with a few tennis girlfriends and Colorado. She plans to coach another season of varsity tennis plus she teaches middle school tennis at CHC in VA Beach. Sadly, Jackie’s mother passed away in April at the age of 86. Her Hood friends have been a tremendous support during a difficult time. Jackie is amazed that after 36 years, the long distance love of friends provided much comfort and strength.

Liz Bastian Chapin and Joy Miller Beveridge had an impromptu gathering in June at her sister’s beach home in Salisbury, DE. Both Liz and husband Chip are working more than ever with their jobs. Both her sons are nearby. The oldest son, Andrew, works in construction and is a DJ on the weekends at various establishments, locally and near Philadelphia. Her youngest son, Ben, just celebrated his 27th birthday. He works for Vanguard in Malvern in the capital markets/investment group. The family all travelled to Austin (live music capital of the world!) for a family wedding in April. Liz spent a week in Portugal early spring and in May, she and Chip spent 12 days in Europe-Vienna, the Danube and Prague! She met up with a friend from her junior year abroad for dinner in Prague one evening! The two had spent time in Prague 38 years ago when the country was under eastern rule. What a wonderful reunion in beautiful Prague!

Hello Class of 1982! Thanks for sharing your news and keeping in touch! Jill Hammon Wetzel and husband moved to the Chesapeake Bay five years ago. They love the view and are enjoying life as empty nesters! Their two sons are homeowners; their daughter will graduate with her masters at Johns Hopkins in May and marry in April. Lisa Spuria caught up with Leslie Morgan Seidel and Amy Blades Steward this past year. Together with Susie Hiles Giallonardo they hope for an upcoming holiday reunion. Lisa retired two years ago, moved to Louisville and is enjoying the small town feel on the Ohio. Liane McCarthy retired after 27 years in the FBI! She gave her last official speech to female state troopers-woman power!  Loving the life of leisure, she hopes to travel and work on home projects. She recently spoke with Sharon Carnevale Schopfer who works at a Newark hospital. Ellen Yodzis Patton was blessed with grand baby #5 born on October 17th. Last child, Claire, is graduating from Elon University in December and is looking for a job in the environmental/ecological field. Christy Belisle Fitzgerald just had her first grandchild, a boy, born on October 17th! Everyone is doing great! Bambi Maitland Grundwerg visited with Ellen Yodzis Patton at her quilting shop in FL in June. She returned to the sunshine state in August as a corporate sponsor of a world-record setting power boat race from Key West to Havana! She and Linda Esterhoy Segur are planning a trip to groundhogs day ground zero in Punxsutawney, PA February 2018.  Lynn Lockett just completed a Master’s Degree in Transformative Leadership and Social Change from the Maryland University of Integrative Health. After raising her daughters and working as a free-lance photographer, she turned her sights to doing some workshops, coaching and blogging in the area of life navigation, focusing in part on the idea of transforming how we regard elders in our society. She and husband, Joe Murphy, just bought a condo in Ocean City, Maryland, and are excited to spend time there with family and friends. Lynne Towns Tucker loves her job as a Realtor for Washington Fine Properties and is honored to be named to Washingtonian Magazines Best List for 3 years in a row! She and husband Ken are adjusting to being empty nesters in their new home of four years. Their two “doodles” keep them busy, active and entertained. Son, David, manages a biometrics lab at Stanford for the National Institute of Standards and Technologies in Palo Alto. Daughter, Jillian, works for a PR firm in Chicago and is recently engaged. Lynne spends time with sister, Jen Griffin Vosburg ’02 and her four daughters. Stephanie Sears Frick writes for the first time in 35 years! After Hood, she worked as a retail buyer then opened the Coach Leatherware store in Philadelphia.  Married Benjamin Frick in 1991 and retired after their first of three children. Sarah graduated from the Dyson School of Business at Cornell University in 2016 and works in NYC. Anna is a junior with dual film & Spanish majors in the Newhouse School at Syracuse University and Charlie is a high school senior.  Stephanie and husband bought an old farm house “as is” in Villanova, PA built in the late 1700’s with an addition put on in 1926.  The age and upkeep of the house keep them very busy!  Stephanie loved her involvement with her kids’ scouting; son Charlie earned his eagle rank this past summer. Steph chairs the souvenir booth at the Devon Horse show which grossed about a half million dollars in 10 days of sales, all benefitting their local hospital. Lastly, Joy Miller Beveridge shares the birth of her first ‘grand-joy,’ Lydia James Beveridge, born to parents Dan and Tricia, and soon to move to Arizona. With Kendall still in San Francisco, Joy and Don look forward to many trips out west.  Joy enjoys participating in many ‘Hood 125 Years’ activities and continues to serve on the Alumnae Executive Board and the Board of Associates.  Her role on both boards is supportive of community outreach within Frederick and adjoining communities. Joy and Ellen Drogin Rodgers continue to meet with Hood leadership and discuss potential post-reunion activities for the future.  And as usual, Joy and Liz Bastian Chapin got together to celebrate Labor Day at the farm of Elizabeth LePatourel Powell ’50 in West Grove, PA.

Hello class of 1982! I must apologize for our absence in the winter issue so I will first catch up on some older news…. Lisa Jean Spuria and husband retired in early 2016 with the federal government after 33 years and moved to Louisville, KY. While remodeling a house and acclimating to the new city, Lisa started her own consulting business.  She is doing some writing as well. Lisa keeps in touch with Amy Blades Steward and Susie Hiles Giallonardo. Deb Booth Cieri had a busy 2016. Her daughter Rachel wed Kevin Mull September 3rd. Godmother, Carol Donnelly O’Farrell, hosted a bridal shower and attended the wedding! Carol toured colleges with her middle child; one included none other than our own Hood College which left a favorable impression! Deb corresponds with Angie Sievers who stays busy with work and family. She also keeps in touch with Kim Whitley Bongiorni who is living back in her hometown of Waldorf and family. Gretchen Steinmetz Keith celebrated three weddings in 11 months! Daughter Lauren was married in June 2016; sons Bobby and Mark married in 2015. The family keeps growing and Gretchen is loving life as “Gigi” to two grandsons. Keeping the fun times rolling, Lisa Bodamer Kida hosted a “Six-Pack” Reunion at her Douglassville, PA home with Hood friends Jodi Palmer Murphy, Donna Trumbull Milewski, Caroline Peck Medley and Suzanne Norris Driscoll. They all enjoyed an amazing weekend of wine tasting, birthday celebrating, antiquing and catching up! The “Six-Pack” just attended the class 35th reunion in Frederick! They stayed at a wonderful old home on East Church St. in downtown Frederick and graciously hosted classmates for post reunion activities. Lots of reminiscing and new memories were made. Ellen Drogin Rodgers reports that over the past year, she’s enjoyed several wonderful visits to Hood: Spending a very brisk but amazing day with Joy Miller Beveridge representing the Class of 1982 at the inauguration of President Chapdelaine; attending the Hood Legacy Brunch with her sister Janet Drogin Wilson ’86, P’14 and niece Riley Wilson ’14; and being present at the Scholarship Recognition Luncheon at which our latest Class of 1982 Scholarship recipient, Le Nguyen ’17, was introduced. Ellen’s still ‘touching the future’ daily at George Mason University as the Academic Dean/Associate Dean for Student and Academic Affairs in the College of Education and Human Development. Pierre is a graduate program coordinator at Mason (and likes to say, Ellen is now his boss at work and home).  They enjoyed a family trip to Israel last July, and look forward to other adventures this summer. Over the past few years, Ellen has gotten together every few months (including a Florida vacation) with Susan Raffaele McHenry and Diana Schmidt-Romano ’83 to reminisce about days at Hood and life in Shriner Hall, sandwich generation trials, and the joys and challenges of everyday life. Susan’s eldest daughter, Jessica, just finished her first year at The College of William and Mary. The twins, Matthew and Julianne, just finished their second year of high school and keep Susan and Geoff busy with year round sports.   Diana and Don are traveling to France this summer following a trip to Wales last summer for the wedding of their youngest, Emily.  There is nothing like the friendships created while at Hood – clearly (and thankfully) they endure.   Ellen notes how wonderful it was to spend time with classmates at our 35^th reunion, and has so appreciated all of the support and kind words from those far and near on her award.  She looks forward to reconnecting with those who couldn’t make it during the coming year. “I would be remiss, as the Class Agent, not to remind everyone to remember Hood in your annual giving – especially contributions to our Class of 1982 Scholarship fund.  It’s our lasting legacy to the college.  Remember, it’s not the amount, as much as it is the act of giving.” Jacquelyn McDaniel West wishes everyone a happy 35th reunion! Although they missed seeing everyone and spending time at the beautiful Hood campus, Jackie and friends had an amazing “mini reunion” in Walnut Creek, CA with host Glynnis Edwards Cowdery. Meg Brown McGinn from CT, Christy Belisle Fitzgerald from FL, and Jackie from VA spent about five days laughing, talking, walking, eating, wine tasting, shopping and sightseeing from Napa Valley to San Francisco! Their fabulous hostess, Glynnis, spoiled them and even made congo bars! The girls wore their dinks, Jackie wore her old Memorial Hall t-shirt, they looked through scrapbooks and old photos. Much fun was had but friends D’Ann White Van Meter ’82, P’11 and Sharon Williams DePamphilis were missed! Regardless of the miles between them, the friendships from Hood remain everlasting bonds. They all hope to celebrate with the rest of the class in five years! Jackie is still living in Virginia Beach but recently moved to the oceanfront area. Coaching and teaching tennis, she also oversees the girls tennis program at a private school and remains active as a player/captain with USTA. Her daughter is a senior at Elon University in NC and her son now lives in Nashville, TN. Glynnis is an Arts commissioner in Walnut Creek and sits on several boards that support Arts Education and the Community. In her spare time, she is addicted to The Bar Method at a nearby studio. Glynnis loves hiking, reading and enjoys some creative work with fused glass and mosaics. She and husband spend much time at their beach house in Washington. Her son Henry lives in West Seattle and is working for a public artist. He hopes to launch his own design company. Daughter, Callie is in law school at George Washington University. Janet Brown Marler shared her whirlwind of the past two years. She married John Garofalo on a lovely autumn day with their daughters as bridesmaids. Janet’s 86 year old father walked her down the aisle! Daughter Mary Beth is an art student doing gorgeous work while Rose is a second grade teacher (and expecting their first grandchild!).  Janet teaches English and is an associate dean at a local community college.  John owns a restaurant on Long Beach Island, so the summer season is a busy time for them! Bambi Maitland Grundwerg reports that life is relatively stable since the last reunion. Her sons are grown and on their own. Bambi still works for IBM as a Marketing Program Director and still lives near the Jersey Shore. She looks forward to connecting with local or visiting Hoodlums! Bambi recently attended the 35th reunion with some of the Coblentz Hall gang (Marcea Horton Cotter, Ellen Yodzis Patton and Anne Connal Biron) and makes note of the reoccurring topics over the past milestone meetings such as HPV shots for teens, bifocals vs progressive lenses, hot flashes and grand babies! Several alums were fondly remembered and missed-Linda Esterhoy Segur, Lisa Chan, Sara Lankitus Spina, Barb Jamison Berman, Suzy Wyda Goldberg and Dawson Casey Bullock! After joining the Class of 1981 at their 35^th Reunion luncheon in 2016, Joy Miller Beveridge was very excited for our own reunion in June… and none of us were disappointed!  It was great fun to see both familiar faces, like my Spanish House roommates (Cynthia Richards Cathcart P’12 and Liane McCarthy) as well as those who hadn’t come back for Reunion for many many years.  Once on campus, it took no time at all to remember with great fondness our brief four years at Hood!  It made us especially proud to witness our own Ellen Drogin Rodgers receive her Distinguished Alum Award at the luncheon… her acceptance speech brought back wonderful memories and tears to our eyes!  If you have Facebook, please join our Hood College Class of 1982 group where we have posted many pictures and will continue to share updates on our class giving and plans for our 40^th!  On a personal note, Joys daughter, Kendall, remains in San Francisco, working at Facebook and playing semi-professional field hockey for the Olympic Club. Son, Danny remains in the Frederick area, where he and his wife work for State Farm, and recently had their first daughter… hoping Lydia James Beveridge may be among the Class of 2039!  Joy remains active with Hood, serving as a member of the Alumni Executive Board and Board of Associates, and Athletic Field Lighting Steering Committee.  Friendships through Hood, new and old, are a gift. Liz Bastian Chapin enjoyed reconnecting with fellow classmates at the 35th reunion. She also crossed paths with Betsy McCain McAlpine ’51, H’17, who was friends with her mother, Mary Hendershot Bastian 50, P’82! They lived across the hall from one another in Meyran! Earlier this year, Liz and other alumni in the Reading, PA area hosted some of the Hood choral members after a local performance. What a great experience! Being the mother of two sons, she so enjoyed having two Hood girls overnight!  Liz discovered that one of the other alumni hosts was a client!  And finally, last Fall, Liz reconnected via social media with a college friend met in Heidelberg, Germany during her junior year abroad. After two phone calls within 3 days, a trip to the Midwest was planned. Thanks to Hood College and the cultural programs for a great experience 36 years ago and the opportunity to develop life long bonds with friends from different parts of the world! Thank you to everyone who contributed news and a big THANK YOU to Joy and Ellen for co-chairing the reunion. Hello Class of 1982! Summer 2016 is here! In just one year we will be celebrating our 35th reunion year. Let’s hope everyone can make it a priority to attend. As always, it is great to hear from you. Marcea Horton Cotter announced the birth of her third grandson, Jacob Jaden Cotter, in January. Ellen Yodzis Patton’s family continues to grow. A new grandson, Cullen, was born in March; her oldest son and wife are expecting they’re third child in the Fall. Ellen dined with Bambi Maitland Grundwerg, husband and sons a few months ago. She and Marcea Horton Cotter also watched her grandson not too long ago. Ellen and husband Mark recently attended a fund raising event where they ran into Christine Belisle Fitzgerald. Ellen’s store is doing well and every now and then she runs into a customer with a Hood connection-like Caroline Wentz Gerwien’s mom! Amy Blades Steward lost her father on June 15th at the age of 83. She reminisces that in his final days they talked about dancing together again one day as they did at the Hood Dad & Daughter weekends. He never missed one of them while Amy attended Hood from 1978 to 1982.  Joy Miller Beveridge, Liz Bastian Chapin and Gretchen Steinmetz Keith joined forces to purchase a Hood brick. Joy encourages all Class of 1982 alums to purchase one. Joy and Liz visited multiple times during the past year in PA and Frederick. Joy attended this year’s reunion activities, including the Friday cookout and the Saturday luncheon. Saturday was a great celebration of the recognized classes, including 1981. Hopefully the Class of 1982 will have great representation next year! Joy writes how Labor Day is an annual treat when Joy and Liz get together with Elizabeth LePatourel Powell ’50. She and Liz’s mom, Mary Hendershot Bastian ’50, P’82 were great pals at Hood! Joy and Liz hope to continue celebrating when we are in our 80’s! Joy’s husband Don retired a year ago. The vegetable and flower gardens have never looked better. They frequently donate produce to community outreach. Daughter Kendall is still in CA working for Facebook and son Danny remains in Frederick working for State Farm. Joy is still with Leidos Biomed and is nowhere near retirement. She is planning and looking forward to a girls’ trip to Paris in August-her first trip abroad! Liz and Gretchen Steinmetz Keith see one another on a regular basis in Reading. Gretchen’s two sons married last year and her oldest daughter ties the knot on June 25, 2016! Gretchen enjoys spending time with her 18 month old grandson Dalton. Her husband Rich recently accepted a new position in Milwaukee.  He’ll reside in the midwest and travel home periodically. Liz keeps in touch with Lisa Shakespeare Whedbee via Facebook. She and husband traveled to Alaska earlier this year to help move her daughter’s family back to Virginia. Liz and family recently moved her father into assisted living. Liz is still working full time in the travel industry. She spent a week in Antigua in May and looking forward to some time in New Mexico this Fall. Wishing everyone a terrific summer!

Hello friends of the class of 1982! Cynthia Richards Cathcart and her son Brian (class of 2012) attended the Legacy Brunch on Sept. 29th during Homecoming weekend. They met Hood’s new president and enjoyed the wonderful spread of food. Cynthia recently returned from leading a retreat for harpists in Colorado during the Spanish Peaks Celtic festival. Reports indicate a successful weekend and folks left the retreat inspired. Joy Miller Beverage visited with Liz Bastian Chapin and Gretchen Steinmetz Keith earlier this year and together they purchased one of the legacy bricks. Joy took a peek during Dr. Chapdelaine’s inauguration held on October 17. She and Tracy McGuirk were tasked to assist with the display for the President’s medallion, which was bestowed to Dr. Chapdelaine during the ceremony. Joy sits on the Alumni Executive Board. Joy and Liz also visited the Fulton Theater in Lancaster, Pennsylvania to see a wonderful performance of The Wizard of Oz….. they hope to see another performance during the upcoming season. Granddaughter of Elizabeth LePatourel Powell ’50 (classmate and dear friend of Mary Hendershot Bastian ’50, Liz’s mom) runs the costume shop and also works as a “dresser’ for some productions at the theater. Older daughter, Chelsea, married in June in Key Largo, Florida and currently lives in Carmel, Indiana. she works for Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis and Butler University. Younger daughter, Kali, works for Lockheed-Martin at the Aberdeen Proving Ground. She and her husband live in the Baltimore-White Marsh area. Angela and husband Tim still live in Frederick. Susan W. Goldberg and husband Marc just returned from a wonderful vacation in France and celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary, September 24, in Paris! Susan is a licensed designer and works as a manufacturer’s rep for educational, corporate and hospitality furniture. She and Marc work together in the industry. Outside of the office, Susan tends to her 93 year old mother’s needs with Alzheimers. Despite the ugly battle, her Mom has happy days and a peaceful smile. Susan feels blessed to still have her in their lives. Oil painting is a passion of Susan’s. Her recent stay at Chateau Chèvre D’Or in Eze on the Mediterranean was inspiring. It is a paradise for painters! Lastly, quality time is spent having fun with their six grandchildren ranging in age from 3 to 10. Gretchen Steinmetz Keith and I still see each other with our “birthday club” group. She has had a busy year with both sons married in 2015 as well as plans for one daughter’s wedding in 2016!

Hello Class of 1982! I hope life is treating you all well as many of us are celebrating our 55th or “double nickel” year! I enjoyed hearing from several classmates this time round. Angela Billotti Phillips recently took the advancement director position at Saint John’s Catholic Prep in Frederick. She and husband Tim are celebrating their 33rd wedding anniversary this year and their oldest daughter Chelsea will be married this June in Key Largo, Fla. Bambi Maitland Grundwerg has joined the “empty nest club” with two sons in college. Oldest son Benjamin was graduating from Univ. of Cincinnati in May and son Alex is finishing up his freshman year at Northeastern in Boston. After 30 years of work in high-tech fields, Bambi is evaluating her next move…. retirement or starting up her own small business! She currently mentors at P-Tech High School in Brooklyn, a public grade 9-14 program recognized by President Obama as a national model for public/private collaboration in preparing students for careers in technology. Instead of retiring, the Keith’s have both taken on new positions in 2015! Gretchen Steinmetz Keith recently returned to her recruiting background and was hired by an engineering firm as their director of recruiting. Husband Rich is now business development manager for Penn National Insurance in Harrisburg. When not working, Gretchen and Rich have been spending time enjoying their first grandson Dalton. Gretchen is also busy planning for three weddings in the next 15 months and happily celebrating her youngest child’s graduation from college. Life feels busier now than when her four were all in school! Gretchen is missing the Hood six pack and hoping to catch up with them when life settles down a bit. Joy Miller Beveridge became a member of Hood’s executive alumni board and enjoyed meeting the candidates for Hood, President Volpe’s replacement. She was pleased to see the athletic center named for Ronald Volpe and Joy helped celebrate his retirement there with Malinda Small ’81, Linda Rupy Spar ’81, Ruth Ravitz Smith ’83 and others. Liz Bastian Chapin and Dad visited with Joy last November while attending the annual appreciation reception which honors donors who support student scholarships. Another visit with Liz is planned soon! Susie Hiles Giallonardo recently relocated to Coral Springs, Fla., from Naples. Husband Mark was offered a Tav Partner/Leadership position with Cherry Bakeart for Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and Tampa. They are empty nesters and look forward to visits from their children. Daughter Dana works for a law firm and son Andy works for an accounting firm; both are in Pittsburgh, Pa. Their youngest Lindsay graduates from FSU next May. Susie recently met with Amy Blades Steward and Lisa Spuria in Naples. Mary Anne Wymer Hatch shares the unfortunate news of Mary Ellen Kossack Sullivan who recently lost her husband Marty to brain cancer. May you feel comforted by friends and family at this difficult time. “Just the two of us” is soon to be the feeling for Dawson Casey Bullock and husband John as they become “empty nesters.” Daughter Caroline is finishing up her sophomore year at the Univ. of South Carolina in biomedical engineering. Son Gibson is headed to the Farmer Business School at Miami Univ. in Oxford, Ohio. John works as liaison director for a biotech company in the specialty division of hemophilia. The job is very rewarding. Dawson owns “Designs by Dawson,” a stationery and invitation boutique which specializes in custom designed invitations. The business has grown to a five employee store in six years! She says hello to all the ’82 Hood girls! Not much news in the Chapin household. Work hard, play hard describes our life. The travel business is very busy these days. My husband and I have managed to get away to the islands twice this year and are celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary with a trip to Ireland! Barb Koiro Daye and family all live in Frederick. Daughter Eliza owns a home just around the corner! Husband Mike retired from coaching football for 30 years and decided to return. He works for Frederick County Public Schools and Barb works as a traveling nurse. Barb and Mike have done a lot of traveling over the years including the 2012 Super Bowl and Indy 500! Barb’s sister lives in the Reading, Pa., area; she and Liz Bastian Chapin are acquainted. My apologies to Barb for just submitting her news. Debbie Booth Cieri said her family is happy and healthy! She and husband are building their dream home at the Magothy River in Maryland to enjoy in their retirement years. Her oldest Rachel is a magazine editor for the Sun Tribune group. Oldest twin is a senior at Methodist Univ., in North Carolina majoring in music education, and younger twin just became an emergency medical technician. Amy Blades Steward of Easton recently co-authored her first book, Charles H Thornton:  A Life of Elegant Solutions, with renowned structural engineer, educator and mentor Charles H. Thornton, Ph.D., PE of Easton. Over the last 30 years, Thornton has engineered some of the world’s tallest and most innovative structures through “disruptive innovation.” He also founded the ACE Mentor Program, a nationwide nonprofit organization offering guidance and training in architecture, construction and engineering to more than 40,000 inner city high school students in 106 cities across the U.S. The memoir’s cover was designed by Amy’s son, Conner Dorbin of Easton. Her oldest son Andrew recently graduated from Temple Univ. in Philadelphia with a film degree and is working for PRS Guitars as a videographer. Amy’s youngest son just graduated from high school and will attend St. Mary’s College of Maryland in the fall. Marcea Horton Cotter welcomed her second grandson Asher Mason Davenport in October 2013. Marcea, family and grandchildren vacationed at Disneyworld earlier this year! They included a visit with Ellen Yodzis Patton and her family while in Florida. Jackie McDaniel West continues to be quite active with tennis! She plays and captains numerous women’s teams in her area and has won several Virginia titles. Her involvement in the past year includes coaching both junior varsity and varsity girls at Cape Henry Collegiate. The varsity girls won States in her first year as coach! Jackie also teaches tennis to middle school-aged girls. Although reluctant to coach at first, Jackie has enjoyed the experience and looks forward to season two in the fall. Her daughter is heading off to Elon Univ. in North Carolina this fall; Jackie’s son is studying culinary arts at Johnson & Wales Univ., in Rhode Island. A new active Goldendoodle puppy named Cooper is helping to fill the “empty nest.” Liz Bastian Chapin has enjoyed several visits with Joy Miller Beveridge in Reading, Pa., and Frederick this year! The Carroll Creek Frederick area is wonderful! It is surely a must see when you return to Frederick for a visit! Gretchen Steinmetz Keith and I see each other throughout the year with a “girls birthday club” in Reading, Pa. It is a good excuse for some mutual friends to get together and celebrate our birthdays! Both of Gretchen’s son’s are engaged; one wedding is planned for 2014! Hello class of 1982! How great to hear from some different classmates! I just returned from dinner with Gretchen Steinmetz Keith and friends. We both live in Berks County, Pa., and get together from time to time. We along with our spouses attended the Hood event held at Longwood Gardens in September. What an enjoyable afternoon we had touring the beautiful gardens! Ann Williams Clemm reported from Batavia where she grew up. Daughter Katie graduated from the Univ. of Albany and one week later was married at a lovely vineyard in Gasport, N.Y. Katie’s husband, who is a West Point graduate and 2nd lieutenant officer is stationed in Fort Lee, Va., for training. The newlyweds are living in Colonial Heights, Va. Transitioning to the “empty nest” happened quickly. Ann enjoys hearing from those she knew at Hood. Dee Van Meter had a busy year between a family wedding and a big move. Son Glenn ’11 married another Hood alumna in May. A week later they put their house on the market and in September, moved from their 4.6 wooded property to a condo across the street from the ocean in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. Downsizing and reducing clutter have been a big challenge! Dee and family are enjoying life in Florida! Marcea Cotter welcomed her second grandson on October 9! She works at Carroll Hospital Center as director of lean and process improvement. Glynnis Edwards Cowdery had lunch with Meg Brown McGinn and Wendy Pulford Rogers when visiting her parents in Connecticut. She just published the 8th edition of The Exceptional Child. She planned to spend Thanksgiving at the beach in Washington and looked forward to having the college age kids home in December. Dawson Casey Bullock keeps in touch with Sally Seward ’83, Molly Quin ’83 and Dana Griffin. She enjoys reading up on everyone in the class column and hopes to attend the next reunion. Dawson’s oldest daughter is a freshman at the Univ. of South Carolina and is studying biomedical engineering. Younger daughter age 17, is busy “shopping” for colleges. Dawson owns a custom stationery/invitation and gift store in Cincinnati for the past five years. Her business has been very successful; she enjoys the combination of creativity and retail management. Joy Miller Beveridge is still living in Frederick. She is a clinical project manager with a biomedical research company. Joy and husband Don celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in January 2013 with a ski trip to Snow Shoe. Daughter Kendall remains in San Francisco working hard in the advertising industry. Son Danny is married and living in Frederick. He and wife Tricia both work for State Farm. Danny continues taking classes toward a degree in education, hoping to teach math and coach soccer. He may even attend Hood in the future! Liz Bastian Chapin, Gretchen Steinmetz Keith and Joy Miller Beveridge always enjoy reunion times as well as time spent together in Reading, Pa. Joy and Liz often see one another at an annual Labor Day Weekend reunion started by Liz’s mother and Hood friends from the class of 1950! Lastly, Joy wanted to share an update on Hood’s field hockey program. Daughter Kendall and teammate Alexis Pappas were national champions at the University of Maryland a few years ago. Alexis is now coaching Hood’s team. At Hood’s senior field hockey match this Fall, Joy witnessed some of the exciting “Terps plays” taking shape on the Hood field. Watching the game brought back many fond memories of playing at Hood as well as watching the Terps! Thank you everyone for sharing your news. I hope to hear from more you in the future!
