In spring 2019, Judie Evans became an editor at the National Museum of American History. She works down the hall from Indiana Jones’s leather jacket, and says she gets to see cool things all the time. Ja’Bette Brown Lozupone is a doctoral candidate at Hood College, Cohort 2020. Andrew Noll and Lauren Sebald Noll moved. They purchased Lauren’s parents’ house as they downsize. Lauren also is the director of the newly named Reverend Monsignor Lloyd Aiken Student Support Program at The Sacred Heart of Gylndon Catholic School. Sarah Robinson Rathbun became an entrepreneur, launching her own business this summer. Sarah developed a new product to repair ripped clothing, and customize clothing and accessories. She calls her product Patcharoos and you can find them online at Patcharoos.com. After more than 13 years of working as a production editor at Rowman & Littlefield, Patricia Stevenson graduated to working on some of the top-tier trade titles published by the company. She recently finished working on Peary’s Arctic Quest, by Susan Kaplan and Genevieve LeMoine, a fully illustrated exploration of the North Pole expeditions of the early 1900s. Patricia encourages everyone to check it out. Amanda Wilber Thompson is living in Louisville, Ky., and part of an operation management trainee program at Ryder Trucking. She has a son, Emmett Dean, who was born in April 2014; and he starts kindergarten in August. Joanna Grauel Zeisser welcomed a second daughter, Madeleine Hope Zeisser, on Aug. 20, 2018.

Greetings classmates. I hope everyone is well. I look forward to your updates, and I hope you do too. In this installment, we have a new job, a new hobby, a few new babies and other family news. Enjoy!
Douglas Brown started a new position as assistant professor and clinical coordinator for Frostburg State University’s new physician assistant program. The program is located at the University System on Maryland campus in Hagerstown, MD. The program currently is pursuing accreditation and hopes to matriculate its first cohort in May 2019. He also accepted an invitation to Frostburg’s Ed.D. program with a focus on educational leadership.
Rachel Collmus Ellick welcomed a baby, Jonathan, in April.
Rebecca Anthony Foster has a new hobby – she is learning to play the accordion! And as of this summer, she has been a freelance writer and proofreader for five years.
Danielle Rodman Giannandrea and her husband welcomed another little boy into the world. Lorenzo Paul Giannandrea was born on Feb 10.
Jennifer Harmon Nachtrieb welcomed a daughter, Lorraine Celeste Nachtrieb (aka Rainey) on Feb 20.
Rani Pellet has been working as a technical writer for the past few years. Her son, Jean-Paul Andre Pellet graduated from St. Mary’s College of Maryland in May 2018 with degrees in computer science and art. While her youngest child, Isabella Maria Pellet, graduated from Frederick High School in May 2018. She will be attending Wingate University in NC in the fall and will play lacrosse. Her intent is to study business, marketing and physical therapy.

Rebecca Anthony Foster has lived in England since 2007 and has been a full-time freelancer for more than four years. She edits science journals and writes book reviews for various print and online publications on both sides of the pond. This year she was pleased to have a review published in the Times Literary Supplement. She also maintains an active book blog, Bookish Beck, and is on a shadow panel of bloggers judging this year’s Sunday Times/Peters Fraser and Dunlop Young Writer of the Year award. Charlene Vestermark Hauser married CPT George Hauser, a dentist in the Army in November, 2016. She graduated from Gastroenterology Fellowship at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, in Bethesda, Md., and is getting ready to start working at Carl R. Darnall Medical Center, in Fort Hood, Texas. Jennifer Harmon Nachtrieb was promoted to branch manager of the escrow office at Yukon Title Company. She also is expecting her first child, a daughter, in February 2018. Caroline Pandorf purchased her first home. She writes, “I am settling in and still unpacking the endless boxes and organizing. It seems it will never end! It’s a “historical” home built in 1938 with a lot character and charm. It’s in Gaithersburg (city), Md. The home doesn’t have a lot of modern necessities as most homes, like central air or a dishwasher, and the kitchen is not updated, but I’m still in love with it and all its potential. One day I’ll get central A/C and modernized the kitchen, and I can always buy a portable dishwasher. But bottom line it’s home and I love it!” This past spring she celebrated nine years in business. Oh my, so much happened since our last class update. The common theme of this update seems to be new jobs/promotions with moves coming in a close second. In 2015, Angela Carideo Auldridge’s 3-year-old son Mark was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder, SCN2a. Since then, she became a board member for the FamilieSCN2a Foundation, a licensed non-profit that seeks to advocate and raise funds for research for this rare genetic disorder. They organized a local Color Dash 5K in Middletown, Md., that raised $18,000 with more than 500 runners participating. On Dec. 1, Angie also started a new job as a Disability Support Services Advisor at Hagerstown Community College, where she has been employed for the last 10 years as an Academic Advisor. Pegah Bozorgnia received her loan origination license and became a mortgage banker. She creates a strategy designed to complement her customers’ short- and long-term financial goals, and make sure they have the best terms on their mortgages. She is licensed to originate loans in Maryland, Virginia, DC, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. She also received a Certified Mortgage Planning Specialist (CMPS). Pegah understands the financing strategy her customers employ today will carry financial consequences that can impact their lives for years to come. Lauren Anderson Cunningham and he husband bought a new house in Crownsville, Md.  “Bye-bye townhouse and hello forever home,” said Lauren.  They are super excited! On Oct. 30, 2016, Cassie Lauren Dukes was promoted to program analyst within the Department of Energy, Office of Science, Office Nuclear Physics, Facilities and Project Management Division. Rachel Collmus Ellick B.A. ’06 and her husband bought a house in Williamsburg, Vir., in July 2016. She also started a new job as a toxicology Health Assessor with the Virginia Department of Health, in Richmond, last December. Maggie Hasselbach will be licensed as a pastor in the United Methodist Church, starting summer 2017. Charlene Vestermark married CPT George L. Hauser, DDS in Jamaica on Nov. 26, with 43 of their family and friends. Leslie Beck Hughan and her husband Bryan welcomed twins into their family in October. The babies were born more than 15 weeks early. Celia Louise was born weighing 1 lb. 11 oz.; and Benjamin Charles was born weighing 1 lb. 15 oz. After very long and eventful hospital stays, she’s pleased to report both babies are home. Lauren Sebald Noll M.S.’12 will be teaching 6th grade at Sacred Heart of Glyndon in the fall. She is very excited. Georgette Sirak Prichard received a promotion at the University of Mount Olive. She’s now the Director of Online Support Services and Enrollment Information. In this role, she works as the director of online programs, as well as with student information system for Admissions. Sarah Robinson Rathbun and her family moved to and bought a house in Fort Collins, Colo. They love Colorado! Sara Levering Roa and husband Vince moved in May 2016. Victoria Tanguay started at Blue Sky Animal Clinic, in Loveland, Colo., as an associate veterinarian.

Greetings classmates! In this issue, five members of our class have great news to share with you about new degrees, promotions, engagements, a birth, and being a published author. Maggie Hasselbach graduated with a Master of Divinity from Wesley Theological Seminary this spring. Nilah Magruder has a picture book coming out in November! How To Find A Fox, about a little girl’s attempts to photograph a sneaky red fox, was written and illustrated by Nilah and will release from Feiwel & Friends on Nov. 15, 2016. Currently it’s available for pre-order on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. It’ll also be available in most bookstores! Together with her husband, Jennifer Stiegler-Balfour welcomed a second son, Mason Erwin Balfour on April 7, 2016 in Portland, Maine. Big brother Liam and the rest of the family couldn’t be happier about the new addition to the family. Jenny also received tenure and was promoted to Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of New England in March 2016.  Victoria Tanguay became engaged to Trevor Bromberg in September 2015. This spring she graduated from Colorado State University with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine and earned certification in Medical Veterinary Acupuncture. Charlene Vestermark was promoted to Major in the US Army and is started her last year as a gastroenterology fellow at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on July 1, 2016. Additionally, Charlene and George Hauser, a dentist and a Captain in the Army, will be married in Jamaica come November 2016. They are really excited to begin this new chapter together.  Congratulations, Maggie, Nilah, Jenny, Tori, and Charlene!

Greetings, classmates. Apparently we updated each other quite a bit during reunion and the last issue of the magazine, because there were few updates submitted for this round. While the number of updates this time may be few, the updates continue to share great news about professional achievements, moves, and babies. Alen Alexanderian welcomed a second child, Katharina Nairi Alexanderian, this September. In the 2015 fall semester, he also started as a tenure track assistant professor in the department of mathematics at the North Carolina State University. Sarah (Robinson) Rathbun’s family grew to total five when Lauren Rose Rathbun, formally known as “Short Cupcake,” was born on July 25 at 7:25 am. She weighed 9 pounds, 3 ounces, and was 21.5 inches long. Sarah and family think Lauren is pretty darn perfect. Heather Smock along with her husband and children, moved from Walkersville, Md., into a new home in Woodsboro, Md. On Oct. 10, Patricia Stevenson celebrated her tenth anniversary with Rowman & Littlefield Publishers, where she has advanced to the position of senior production editor. Congratulations, Alen, Danielle, Sarah, Heather, and Patricia! I hope the rest of our class is doing well. And I hope we’ll have even more news to share come the next issue.

This summer the class of 2005 celebrated our 10-year reunion. Holy cow, how has it been 10 years since we graduated? For those of you who couldn’t join us for this reunion, I’ll sum up the weekend in one word: amazing. We were able to tour the campus to see what is exactly the same and what has changed since we graduated. I’m ashamed to admit this, but I forgot just how breath-takingly beautiful the campus is in person. Since we graduated, there is a new fountain outside Hodson; new sidewalks; a new athletic building named after honorary class of 2015 member Ronald J. Volpe; carpeted floors throughout Smith and Memorial; and residential rooms on the ground floor in Meyran. While it was really strange to see some of these changes, the college still looks and feels like Hood did when we were students. Aside from the nostalgia of reunion and being on campus again, it was so much fun to be reunited with classmates. There was a lot of hugging, laughing, storytelling and picture taking. Additionally, a lot of new Hood memories were made this weekend at the dinners, in Shriner, in Whitaker and during the scheduled activities. I could go on forever about how wonderful reunion was, but then there wouldn’t be room for the wonderful news below from our fellow classmates. I’ll wrap up my recap with these two thoughts and a challenge. Classmates who weren’t here with us this year, you were missed and we hope to see you at the 15-year reunion in 2020. Now the news: In April, Jocelyn Berte Dunnavant started a new job at Sara June Salon in Brooklyn, N.Y. You can check out her bio at SaraJuneBrooklyn.com. Kimberly Beach Jenkins moved to Riva, Md., with her husband Mark and children Shelby and Hunter. She also started a new job at Seven Management Companies as their human resources manager. Cassie Dukes and husband John Tagliamburis welcomed a baby girl Madlyn Hope Tagliamburis on Nov. 19, 2014. She was born at Carroll Hospital Center at 3:37 a.m., weighing 8 pounds, 5 ounces and measuring 20.5 inches long. Jordana Francis Chettiparampil gave birth to a second daughter Rose Chettiparampil on Feb. 20, 2015. Rose was welcomed by big sister Angela and proud father Joe. Jessica Holthaus Badour was accepted into the International Food Protection Training Institute’s Fellowship in September. The year-long program provides food protection professionals with knowledge, skills and abilities to work effectively within the framework of food regulatory science, law and policy, including a series of seminars over three week-long sessions in addition to a research project. Her project examines state food safety agencies’ use of social media to communicate with stakeholders by surveying existing practices, in order to determine the effectiveness of social media as a communications tool during recalls and other food safety events. She will present the findings from the research project in June at the annual Association of Food and Drug Officials conference in Indianapolis. Tammy McElroy McNish earned a Master of Sports Leadership from Northeastern Univ. in May. She is still living in Charlotte, N.C., and would love to catch up with any classmates traveling through the area. Andrew Noll, a physician assistant, left MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center after four and a half years to start a new job at Patient First in Owings Mills, Md. Caroline Pandorf started a dog walking and pet care business, Spoiled Pawz, for upper Montgomery County, Md., eight years ago. Recently, she became certified in dog training and obedience training. You can check out her business at SpoiledPawzOfMontCo.net. In addition to her growing business, Caroline stays busy keeping healthy and fit, working out at the gym five times a week. She lost 75 pounds since our graduation and this May finished her second 5K obstacle course, beating her first 5K time by 20 minutes. She hopes to enter 8K and 10K events in the future. Sarah Robinson Rathbun is expecting her third daughter in late July. The new baby has been lovingly nicknamed Short Cupcake by big sister Lydia. The Rathbuns also moved from San Francisco to suburban Castro Valley, Ca., in October.

Jillian (Kotmair) Bright along with husband Andrew and daughter Juliette welcomed twin girls, Alexandria Marie and Josephine Lily, on March 14, 2014. Cassie Dukes and husband John Tagliamburis are preparing to welcome a baby in early December. Danielle (Rodman) Giannandrea and husband Frank purchased a new home in Frederick, which was featured in a nationally-airing Remax commercial. Jennifer Harmon got married, her new last name is Nachtrieb. In addition to being a newlywed, she started a new job as the coordinator of the Community Research Center, Fairbanks North Star Borough in Alaska. Recently, her job brought her to the Pittsburgh for a conference where she was able to catch up with former roommate Rachael (Lubkin) Zeminski. Sarah Hoover is in a Master of Business Administration program for international relations at Southern New Hampshire University. Melanie Howell reports life is sweet. In December, she became engaged to John D. Grantham, whom she dated for the past 10 years. They are getting married at the Cloisters Castle in Pikesville, Maryland, this October and look forward to spending the rest of their lives together. Kristen (Heisey) Leiter welcomed a baby girl, Katherine, into her family on June 4, 2014. Georgette (Sirak) Prichard’s husband received a promotion last August and they have since purchased a house. They are living in Spring Lake, North Carolina near Fort Bragg with three very loveable dogs who make life interesting. Sadly, her cat Smudge aka Fatty Fat Cat, who lived with her and Sarah (Robinson) Rathbun in their off-campus apartment senior year passed away. He was 16 years old. Sarah (Robinson) Rathbun and her family moved from Nashville to San Francisco in June. Tiffany Still married David Grant on Oct. 13, 2013. Charlene Vestermark was accepted for a gastroenterology fellowship at the National Capital Consortium Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, which begins in August. Janelle (Stevens) Weddle claims it’s not newsworthy but celebrated 10 years of marriage with Jeremiah on July 17, 2014. I say she’s wrong. Congratulations, Janelle and Jeremiah!  Nate Wood-Wilson married Ashley Nick ’08 on June 21, 2014 in Knoxville, Md.

Class of 2005, we have a lot of news this issue. It seems like everyone is so busy. Wow, what a year 2013 was for the class of 2005. Quite a few classmates welcomed new babies last year. Many member of our class started new jobs. Some earned master’s degrees and some were married. The trend of big life changes continues for 2014.

• Danielle Allen went to Japan last summer and climbed Mt. Fuji! She did the two-day climb, starting on Aug. 28, slept in a hut and finished the climb to watch the sunrise from the summit on Aug. 29. Danielle also, changed jobs in January 2013; she is now a management analyst for Strategy and Future Requirements, which is a Department of the Navy job for the Naval District in DC.

• Tracey Carter received a promotion over the summer and is now the web content editor for Frederick County Public Libraries. She also graduated from Florida State University on Dec. 13, with a master’s in library and information sciences and a certificate in leadership and management.
• Ashley Cook Monn welcomed a daughter, McKenzie Blythe Monn, on Oct. 16. She was 8 pounds, 4 ounces and 21 inches long. McKenzie joins big brothers Jared, 7 and Tyler, 4, and big sister Kylie, 2.
• Kelsey Gage Staggers returned to Shamin Hotels in Richmond, Va., where she is the regional director of operations, managing a portfolio of mid to upper scale select service hotels.
• In August, Danielle Kahler earned a master’s degree in historic preservation from the University of Georgia. After graduation, Danielle moved to Richmond, Va., where she is the manager of a Things Remembered. She also is a part time tour guide at Agecroft Hall, a Tudor manor house that was moved from England in 1926.
• In May 2013, Heather Mannix earned a master’s degree in global environmental policy from the School of International Studies at American University in Washington D.C.
• Rainey Sokol Chase, moved to Bath, Maine in the fall and she began a new career with Rodan + Fields Dermatologists, growing its new antiaging skin care company across the country.
