Carole King Heine spent last weekend meeting up with 1983 classmates at their 35th reunion. She saw some of our fellow ’84 classmates this past weekend and it was so fun to share funny old stories and reminisce. There was a dinner on Saturday night at Coblentz and it included all classes except the 50th reunion. Hood did a wonderful job and it was fun to meet so many other classes. I hope we all put this on our calendar to attend next year. Those who came back were amazed at all the changes that have taken place in downtown Frederick, it is not the same town! Hope to see you all next June.

Karen Curtis Craney is retiring after 34 years with Frederick County Public schools, with the last 25 years as a Literary Specialist. Karen’s eldest son Tyler is a cardiac nurse at Johns Hopkins and youngest son Travis is a Junior at East Carolina University studying to be an ICU nurse. Karen and her husband Tom are retiring to Fenwick Island, DE this summer.
Lynn Davis made the move to retirement recently, retiring as the property and evidence manager after 31 years with the Clearwater, Florida Police Department.
Paris DuChesne Niesterowicz started her Master’s Degree Program in Nursing at Stevenson University. She continues to work as a full time emergency department nurse at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore. She and her husband Chris enjoy living on their farm in Finksburg, MD and enjoy their Lippizan filly, Charlotte, Morgan mare, Gigi and Belgian, Wesley.
Jennifer Julian Radcliffe is in her 10th year teaching preschool and now teaches the 4/5 class. Husband Roy is currently working as a contractor with Bits systems. Their son Andrew is currently doing his disassociated tour as Top Catapult Officer on USS Harry S. Truman. He was recently selected for Department Head and putting on LCDR in September. Their daughter Claire is in her 4th year as State Records Archivist at the Library of Virginia in Richmond. Jen is excited to share news that her son got engaged to his girlfriend, Jessi before he left on deployment. A May 2019 wedding is planned at the USNA Chapel.
Claudia Nichols Nealley reports in from Frederick that she is excited that her nephew Lance will be a freshman at Hood this coming fall. He will be on the golf team and Claudia is looking forward to attending the legacy lunch!
Terry Rappoldt Stickles reports in from Glenville, PA that she retired from M&T bank last October and is now working for a nonprofit retirement community Spirittrust Lutheran as the Coordinator of Volunteer Services. She is happy to report that her daughter Bailey who is intellectually disabled has found a job working as a dishwasher in her local middle school cafeteria. Her coworkers took Bailey under their wing and made it a very positive experience for her. Terry enjoys spending her free time gardening and volunteering with Special Olympics.
Claire Sullivan Peterson reports in on her way to Chicago to meet up with her twin daughters Amy and Lisa to see Hamilton. Amy lives in Atlanta where she is an epidemiologist at the CDC. Daughter, Lisa lives in San Diego where she is a practicing physician Neonatologist/USN. Son, Douglas and his family are still stationed and living in Naples, Italy. Doug has been selected for Captain (USN). Claire has recently done quite a bit of traveling she enjoyed the Masters games in New Zealand watching her daughter Lisa participate and gold medal in eight events. She also recently joined her graduate institute St Johns in a trip to Dordogne, France where she entered several caves to view prehistoric cave art.
Maria Prezioso Beyer reports that her 10th grandchild was recently born, a granddaughter. Congrats Maria!
David Hernandez moved to VT in ’07 and 1 year ago finally made it to my desired destination of the Montpelier area. I work for Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin as a dietitian on a Community Health Team. VT is on the leading edge of healthcare reform. I feel blessed to be a part of it. Community Health Teams are comprised of nurses, social workers, behavioral health and dietitians. We work out of the primary care offices and are support additional patient needs to help manage overall well-being. All services under this program are free to remove any barriers in patient access. I’m actively working towards becoming a Certified Diabetes Educator. Prior to this job, I worked for Porter Medical Center in Middlebury VT for 5 years also on a Community Health Team.

Carol Whynot Neill and husband George celebrated 32 years of marriage in August.  Carol is working part-time for the government and George is Director of Sales for a local new home builder.  Their daughter Caitlin and her husband Matt live nearby in Annapolis, and had their first grandchild Carter last year.  Carter is 20 months old and so much fun! Daughter Emily is doing well, they are happy she lives close by.  Son, Spencer is a junior in high school and playing football and baseball.  Carol would love to connect with any friends on Facebook! Maryann Giannotti Massillio’s Danny is in his second year working for ESPN in Bristol, CT as a Production Assistant, where he creates highlights and dialog of sporting events prior to it being shown on ESPN.  Maryann recently visited Chicago, ILL to attend the Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo where she was recognized as a Fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Jennifer Bardliving Reed, Leslie Wilkins-Pruitt ’85 and Mari Padilla Spina ’86 reunited with their Lil’ Sisters in Frederick.  They enjoyed visiting with, Maritza Bido ’86, Luz DeBrosse Ment ’86, Nanette Rosario Sanchez ’86, Gina Oliveros ’86, Kim E. Burns ’87 and Khateeta Emerson.  Through tears of joy and hugs they laughed about the times they shared on Hood’s campus and caught up on their life journeys beyond Hood.  They decided too much time had passed and they hope to get together more often! Jennifer and Leslie were also able to attend the 125^th Hood homecoming in September.  Jennifer enjoyed catching up with Vice President of Student Life and Dean of Students Dr Olivia White and enjoyed meeting President Andrea Chapdelaine.  Jennifer and Leslie both agree that they are one thousand percent happy they selected Hood College for their undergraduate work.  Hood has prepared them for so many life opportunities and challenges. Mindy Brown and Amy Connor Asman reunited to celebrate their “double nickels” birthdays in Pittsburgh.  They attended the Tim McGraw/Faith Hill Soul to Soul concert.  Amy Connor Asman’s daughter Emily just started her MBA program at UT-Austin.  Son Connor, works in Bethesda in Marketing for a vitamin company.  Maria Prezioso Beyer still finds herself in Frederick County and reports life is Wonderful in Woodsboro.  She and Donnie are “retired”……which actually means busy!  Together they have 5 children, 9 grandchildren and are expecting their second great grandchild.  Maria and Donnie spend a fair amount of time traveling to visit family and still sees Olga Hopkins Murray.  Maria says her friendship with Olga is an unusual gift and she is grateful they remained close, it is also neat to see their children continuing their friendship! Stephanie Robertson Belella is the Vice Chancellor of the Acquisition Internship School at the Department of Veteran Affairs Acquisition Academy in Frederick.  Her daughter Taylor was married in July, 2017 to Cullan Ganley.  Stephanie became a third time grandmother to Quinn Robert Belella the third son of her son and daughter-in-law Mitchell and Carissa Belella.  Daughter, Payton is a Junior at Hood College and loves every minute.  She is a biology major and recently was awarded a scholarship as part of the Hood Legacy ring and Scholarship program. Rebecca Burdette is a board-certified obesity medicine physician and she just created a new science based plan for wellness called Dr. Becky’s Health Done Right.  She plans to launch the program by the end of the year and would love to speak to anyone regarding healthy eating especially as it relates to women’s health. Terry Rappoldt Stickles started a new job at Spirittrust Lutheran at Utz Terrace as the Volunteer Services coordinator.  She left the world of retail banking after 33 years.  She is looking forward to the job and using a different skill set unfortunately not to full time work as her previous job was part time for the last 25 years. Paris DuChesne Niesterowicz is expecting a new baby!  She is looking forward to her 6 month old Lipizzaner filly Charlotte arriving home.  Paris is also pursuing her Master’s degree in Nursing Management at Stevenson University.  She currently works in the Emergency department at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore. Carole King Heine reports daughter Kelsey, 27 lives in Baltimore and is a sales rep for Avaya.  Daughter Gretchen, 25 lives in Oklahoma City and is a 5^th grade teacher with Teach for America.  Son Kevin, 23 was commissioned as a Marine Officer in June.  Daughter Carly, 21 is a Junior at University of MI and plays on the Women’s Lacrosse team.  Carol and Husband Stephen traveled to Italy to celebrate their 30th anniversary.  Carol has been Director of Tour de Frederick for the past three years and recently joined a new start up Potluck.chat, a video chat platform with many possibilities.  She would love to hear from anyone who is interested in checking it out! Ellen-Marie Samsen Knehans is excited to sing The Messiah with the Hood college choir.  Her son Jonathon is a senior at Hood majoring in Business Administration with a Minor in Economics and Accounting.  Her other son is a Biology teacher at Burroughs HS in Ridgecrest, CA.

Greeting Hood friends-Springtime greetings from NJ!  Beach weather is almost upon us!  Thanks to all who responded to my e-mail requesting news for the column. I have heard from Claudia Nichols Nealley that her son Luke has graduated from Carnegie Mellon University this spring and is excited to be starting a new job in Pittsburgh.  Claudia’s daughter Maggie is a rising Junior at Frederick High School.  Maggie continues to love lacrosse and they plan to spend the summer traveling with her Lionheart team to tournaments.  Recently Claudia joined the Blue and Grey Boosters Club.  Claudia would love to get some type of tailgate tradition started at Hood and would love the chance to visit with friends. Claudia and her husband Mark have recently donated to help light the athletic field at Hood.  They found out that Hood is the only college in our conference without a lighted field.  Having a NCAA athlete in her family has made Claudia realize what an asset athletics are for Hood.  A large percentage of Hood’s new students are athletes.  Claudia encourages all to consider donating to help get Hood’s field lit or to join the Blue and Grey Boosters club.  Natasha Keyian reports in from Florida that she has just started a new teaching position with the Seminole County Public schools.  She is working with intellectually delayed students and students with autism and is loving teaching. Barbara Reade Hawkins reports in from Virginia.  Her eldest daughter Emily graduated in May from Radford University with a BS in English and is currently pursuing her master’s degree from Southern New Hampshire University.  She is hoping to teach middle or high school English in Southwestern Virginia.  Barb’s youngest daughter Rebecca graduated as Valedictorian from Freedom High school in Woodbridge, VA and from The Governor’s School at Innovation Park, Manassas, VA.  She is planning to attend Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Virginia Tech).  She will be enrolled in the Honors College and the college of Natural Resources and Environment.  She will be working towards a degree in Wildlife Conservation/Environmental Science. Robin Winkler-Pickett M.S. ’07, MBA ’17 just walked the stage for the third time at Hood to receive her MBA this spring and received the 2017 Outstanding Graduate Student Award in Business Administration.  Ten years ago, she pulled off the same feat by being named the Outstanding Graduate Student in Biomedical Sciences!  Robin has worked for the National Cancer Institute for 31 years and now with school work done, again, she is looking forward to some personal and professional reinvention and will be exploring new opportunities for change and growth.  Always the proud mama, she shares that are kids are doing well and always amazing her. Her oldest son is doing exceptionally well in the Marine Corp having received the U.S. Navy and Marine Corp Commendation Medal this year and continues to be stationed locally which Robin loves. His current enlistment will take him to over 15 years (anyone hear “career Marine”?).  Her daughter-in-law is an art teacher in FCPS and was tenured this year and Robin is enjoying having a girl in the family. Her youngest “special” one, has surpassed all expectations from his childhood challenges and serves as a reminder that anything is possible with perseverance, dedication, and love.  Please get in touch with Robin- she is looking for things to fill all the time she now has!

Greetings from cold NJ! Hope everyone is managing to stay warm! I heard from several people who would love to share their news with their Hood family. Claudia Nichols Nealley reports in that her son is a senior at Carnegie-Mellon University this year. He just finished his football season playing right tackle, and Claudia and her family enjoyed traveling to every game to see him play. Claudia even got the chance to see CMU play Chicago the weekend of the Cubs World Series parade and shared Chicago with 5 million happy Cubs fans. Claudia’s daughter is attending Frederick High and hopes to play lacrosse in college. Claudia is busy chairing the Frederick Cadets Care 4 Kids Charity event where they supply toiletries and gift cards to 100 needy students at the high school. Joy Kelz Woolley reports in from IL that daughter Sarah just graduated from Navy Helicopter Pilot training in Pensacola, FL, and will be flying the SH-60R out of Hawaii. Joy and Jim are looking forward to visiting her in Hawaii. Paris DuChesne Niesterowicz reports in from MD that she and husband Chris have purchased a horse farm in Finksburg, MD. The farmhouse was built in the 1800s, and part of it is a log cabin. Paris works as an emergency room nurse. Paris and Chris currently have two German shepherds, a horse and a foal on the way. Rachel Baker Beard reports that she has had some health issues this year and is hoping 2017 brings better health. She and her husband celebrated the marriage of their youngest son in May. Barbara Rothermel reports that she was just the second student from the US to be awarded a Ph.D. in museum studies from the University of Leicester, UK. She is currently the director of the Daura Gallery and associate professor of museum studies at Lynchburg College in VA. She was also recently elected vice president of the University Museums and Collections Committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM-UMAC). Peggy Smith Bacon reports in from Northwest Houston where she has lived for the past 12 years. They are nearly empty nesters! Her youngest daughter is a freshman at the University of North Texas. Peggy’s oldest daughter is a pediatric dietitian at Baylor Scott and White in Waco, TX. Middle daughter is set to graduate in spring 2017 from Sam Houston State University and will be employed as a child counselor or other work related to victim studies. Peggy and husband Graham are looking to relocate to the downtown Houston area to shorten Graham’s daily commute. Peggy and Graham are looking forward to celebrating their30th wedding anniversary in March 2017. Peggy is a member of the Pearl Fincher MFA Guild and has been a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas for close to two decades. Mindy Brown reports in from Pittsburgh, PA, that she had the chance to get together with Amy Connor Asman, P’16 and her daughter, Erin. They attended a Pittsburgh Penguins game and spent the weekend sightseeing in Pittsburgh. Ellen-Marie Samsen Knehans, P’18 reports in from California. She had the chance to attend a Hood gathering in Dana Point, CA. She enjoyed meeting President Andrea Chapdelaine as well as seeing Nancy Gillece ’81 and Martha Hearn Shimano ’86. Ellen also brought a prospective student to the Hood gathering. I had the chance this fall to catch up with dear Hood friends at a mini-reunion in Lewes, DE. Thanks to the hospitality of Laurie Draper Carter we were able to stay at her beach-side house in Lewes. Even though the weather didn’t cooperate, we really enjoyed reminiscing and catching up on each other’s lives. Jenny Welles Green and I drove in from NJ. Lori Hobbs Stiles ’83 drove down from VA and Pam Platt, Jeanne Thomson Dinterman, Karen Curtis-Craney, M.A.’93 and Karen Reardon all drove down from MD. Traveling the farthest were Lynn Davis and Diana Proia Romeo traveling from FL and WI, respectively. We were also able to catch up with Bonnie Sell Crowther who, along with Laurie resides in DE. Lots of good food, good laughs and wonderful memories were had. I highly recommend Lewes as a vacation destination. Can’t wait to go back when the weather cooperates! I just celebrated 25 years with the same company, Zeus Scientific, currently director of quality assurance, and am busy raising an eighth grader! Time sure does fly! Greeting Class of ’84! Hope everyone is having a wonderful summer!  We have heard from the following alumni!  Sue Sutton Bartolotto reports that they have moved to Rochester, New York.  Sue is working in the Fairport Central School District.  Daughter Sara, 28 was married in July, 2015.  Daughter Emily, 22 is finishing up her degree in hospitality and event planning at Monroe Community College.  She will be working this summer on an internship with the Rochester Rattlers. Daughter Hannah, 18 also will be attending Monroe Community College in the fall while son John, 14 will be in 9^th grade and playing lacrosse.  Sue sends a shout-out to all the Hood alums! Claire Sullivan Peterson checked in from Lusaka, Zambia where she is visiting daughter Amy who is stationed there with the CDC/Public Health Service. They are all living in a tree house while on safari at a Flat Dog camp.  Claire also visited daughter Lisa who attended a rowing camp in Sabaudia, Italy where she toured Rome, Naples and Sorento.  Claires’s son Douglas is stationed by the Navy in Naples as well so she is looking forward to many trips there to visit grandchildren Maeve and Fionn.

Greetings fellow Hood alum! It’s a beautiful fall weekend here in New Jersey. I was hoping last weekend to attend Hood Homecoming but the weather did not cooperate! Here are the updates from the Class of ’84! Jenny Muir reports that she has moved back to South Jersey after living in Idaho since 1990. She has switched careers after 30 years in the administrative field and got her M.Ed in Education from Holy Family University in Philadelphia. She is currently working as a Pre-K teacher and would love to network with any teachers in the South Jersey area from Hood. Her e-mail address is jenny08088@yahoo.com. Jenny is also a “Puppy Raiser” for the Seeing Eye and is currently raising a 1 year old German Shepard for the program. Jenny has also visited with classmates Evelyn Hoban, Holly Goss Betts and Heidi Crammond Maidamast ’83. Jenny also enjoys spending time with her sister Bess Muir ‘79. Robin Winkler-Pickett is back at Hood earning another degree, this time an MBA to go with her MS. Robin continues to work at the NCI and recently took on the responsibilities as Scientific Operations manager. Robin reports that she works with another Hood alum, Jami Willette-Brown. Robin’s son Eric is a Sgt. in the USMC, stationed in Maryland. Daughter-in-law, Val, is an art teacher at Green Valley elementary. Robin’s youngest son Adam is excited to have just secured his first full time job! Beth Rosenberg reports that effective February 2015, she has been promoted to the position of Community Development Block Grant/Housing Finance Programs Manager with Loudoun County Government. In this position, she manages Loudoun County’s Community Development Block Grant Program and a professional staff of five others that help low and moderate income residents to purchase homes, prevent and reduce homelessness, manage grants that serve at risk families and children and provide community outreach services. Caludia Nichols Nealley had also hoped to attend Hood Homecoming but she and her family, husband Mark and daughter Maggie attended their son’s Homecoming football game at Carnegie Mellon that day. Claudia reports all is well in Frederick! Susan MacKenzie reports that her daughter graduated from Denison University in May and then moved to New Zealand. She is taking a gap year before applying to grad school in Geoscience. Sue is working as a Commercial Interior designer for a Healthcare Architectural firm. Susan Sutton Bartolotto reports that she is living in Rochester, New York. Husband John is working for Zaxis. Daughter Emily is 21 and taking classes at Monroe Community College and looking to pursue a career in the Hospitality field. Sue’s daughter Hannah graduated from high school in June and also attends Monroe Community College. Sue’s son Johnny is in 8th grade and plays football and lacrosse for his middle school teams. Sue has gone back to work full-time with the Fairport Central School District. Sad news to pass along in this column is the passing of a fellow classmate, Vince Coates on October 9, 2015. We send our sincere condolences to his family and friends. For anyone who would like to honor Vince, Hood has established the Vince Coates Memorial Fund for Student Interns. Greetings class of 1984!  Christine Garvey Lentine is pleased to report that her daughter Alicia graduated from The Catholic Univ. of America in Washington, D.C. this past May with a degree in politics. What makes Christine happier is that Alicia is employed! Son Michael is a sophomore at Rider Univ. in New Jersey majoring in business. Christine and her husband Neil have spent the past year transitioning from New Jersey where they have each lived for the past 51 years to Naples, Fla. In January, Florida will be their full time home, but they are sure to still be spotted in New Jersey and at their home in Tilghman Island, Md. Amy Gilson Corbin ended up getting a degree in studio arts and has exhibited pieces at the House of Senate in Annapolis, Art at the Mill in Berryville, Va., and Hood College. Amy has two sons and was the former marketing director for Chick-Fil-A for eight years. She is currently working at American Public University System (American Military University and American Public University) where she has the flexibility to work remotely and looks forward to relocating near blue water when her youngest son graduates this coming year. Edie Orazi started a new job this past July. She is working as a federal contractor as a program manager/lead catalog librarian at the Smithsonian Institution libraries.  Congratulations, Edie! Sue Bartolotto reported from Woodbridge, Va., that her husband has retired after 30 years of service with the U.S. Army. He is currently searching for a job in the Rochester, N.Y. area where they hope to relocate. Daughter Sarah is working in New Jersey and living in Pennsylvania. Daughter Emily is a sophomore at Hood, daughter Hannah is in her junior year of high school and son John is in sixth grade. Sue continues to substitute teach in her county school system and church school. Quick recovery wishes go out to Sue as well and she recovers from ACL reconstruction knee surgery which was a result of playing in the Hood alumni field hockey game in April. Sue had a great time even though she was the oldest one participating! Robin Winkler-Pickett is still working full-time at the National Cancer Institute.  Robin is also back at Hood working on another graduate degree in the master of business administration program. When she is finished this current degree she will have three degrees and four majors from Hood!  Robin’s eldest son Eric just re-enlisted in the U.S. Marines and was married a year ago to Val who is a Frederick County Public School art teacher. Son Adam anticipates graduating from high school in May 2014. Heidi von Storch Miner and husband Randy will soon be celebrating 15 years of marriage. She is proud to be mom to three fine young men who are working and each doing what they love. Son Sean lives in California and is engaged to be married. He works for Environmental Lights in the shipping department.  Stepson Craig is also engaged and lives in Chicago where he works at Third Coast Guitars repairing and building guitars. Heidi’s youngest stepson Drew lives in Colorado and works at Vail Ski resort and for a towing company. Heidi is enjoying making handmade crafts in her free time. A few other tidbits of information have come my way.  Karen Curtis Craney reports that for the past 30 years she has been living in Frederick and working for the Frederick County Public School System as a teacher and Literacy specialist. Claudia Nealley is enjoying being back to work at a local Montessori school as a teacher’s assistant. Lynn Davis is still working full time for the Clearwater Florida police department as the property and evidence supervisor and just returned from a cruise in September that went from Denmark to New York.  Jeanne Thomson Dinterman is still working at Meritus Medical Center in clinical microbiology. Husband John owns USave Car and Truck rental in Frederick. Son Andrew is an elementary school gym teacher in the Frederick County School System.  Son Aaron is a college junior who is playing basketball and son Kyle is a freshman in college. Sue MacKenzie reported in from Vienna, Va., where she is doing contract interior design work. Sue’s daughter is a junior at Denison Univ. in Ohio and planned to leave for New Zealand in January to study abroad. It was great hearing from so many of you––I hope to see everyone at our 30th reunion in May 2014! Make your plans now!

Cynthia Webb was celebrating her 28th year with the Montgomery County Public School systems in Maryland and is in her eighth year as a special education supervisor. In November, Cynthia met up with Linda Rudy Daugherty, Daphne Byrd Gabb and Carol Whynot Neill for dinner and to attend the 65th anniversary performance of the Messiah at Hood.

Sue Sutton Bartolotto checks in from Woodbridge, Va. Daughter Emily is in her freshman year at Hood hoping to major in elementary special education. Daughter Hannah is a sophomore in high school and son John is in fifth grade. Sue’s husband John is due to retire from the Army after 30 years of service and they are looking to relocate to Rochester, N.Y. Robin Winkler-Pickett’s son Eric, a Marine, has returned from a tour in Afghanistan and was married in July. Eric will soon be relocating closer to home at Fort Meade. Robin was accepted into a competitive leadership education and action program at the National Cancer Institute and is hoping to return to Hood to take some management classes.

Amy Connor Asman reported that daughter Emily is a senior at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind. She will be working at Texas Instruments in Dallas when she graduates. Amy’s son Connor is a freshman at Hood and youngest daughter Erin is in the ninth grade and is homeschooled. So interesting to see a few of our children attending Hood! Tammy Snyder Rall reported from Stafford, Va. Two of her sons are getting married in 2013 and she is planning a family cruise to the Bahamas.

Peggy Smith Bacon reported from Houston. Two of Peggy’s daughters are in college and one is a freshman in high school. Peggy keeps busy doing artwork and is a volunteer and board member of her local Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts. Carole King Heine traveled to Stanford Univ. this past February to see daughter Kelsey, who plays for Ohio State, play in a woman’s lacrosse game. While there, Carole met up with her sister Kathleen King Kinsey ’87, Beth Shimer Murphy ’86, and spent time reminiscing with another Hood alum, Anne Merrick Vosti ’58, while there. Carole’s son Kevin is a senior at Oakdale High School along with Karen Craney’s son Tyler. Speaking of Karen Craney, she thought it would be fun to see how everyone is celebrating their 50th birthday this year! A big happy birthday to everyone! Sue Sutton Bartolotto celebrated with a family and friends party under a big “circus” tent in her back yard. Annemarie Hemond Albiston spent a girl’s weekend with her closest childhood friends. They took residence at Burnt Island, Maine, for the weekend and enjoyed beautiful scenery, food and endless reminiscing. Annemarie’s cousin Elaine Patry Jones ’77 is the light keeper of Burnt Island. Laurie Draper Carter spent the weekend in Charleston, S.C., as a surprise from her husband! They spent a wonderful three days enjoying her birthday! Heidi von Storch Miner celebrated her 50th by looking for more adventure! She and her friends went to lunch and then kayaking and a few weeks later Heidi went backpacking and camping with her son in Western Michigan. Susan Brushaber enjoyed brunch with her husband, brother and friend and then flew to Reykjavik, Iceland, where she spent a week soaking in the geothermal pools, riding Icelandic horses, biking, sightseeing and relaxing! Both Karen Curtis Craney and Robin Winkler Pickett had surprise birthday parties thrown for them by their friends and family! Amy Connor Asman spent her birthday weekend with her husband at a B&B at Deep Creek Lake. Tammy Snyder Rall challenged herself to run back-to-back marathons for her 50th birthday. She ran the Marine Corps Marathon on October 28 and planned to run the New York City Marathon the next weekend, but Hurricane Sandy foiled her plans. Carole King Heine has been celebrating her birthday for several months running. She was in Albuqurque, N.M., in June for a wedding and spent time with Katie Farley Babuska. In February, Carole traveled with Jeanne Pensec O’Reilly to Lancaster, Pa., to celebrate Carol Pointer Wanner’s birthday. Carole’s husband threw her a surprise 50th birthday celebration with both old and new friends in attendance. Peggy Smith Bacon celebrated her 50th with a trip to New York City with her husband, where they took in the sights and saw several Broadway shows. Upon their return, she celebrated her birthday at a favorite Italian restaurant with family and friends. For our 50th, my husband and I took our daughter to Disneyworld for vacation. For our real celebration we met up with Lynn Davis at Discovery Cove in Orlando, Fla., and spent the day with the dolphins! We had an amazing experience and it was so nice to catch up with Lynn while she was home from one of her many trips around the world. Thanks to all for sharing your 50th birthdays with us!
