I, Lynn Marzulli White, was not able to attend our reunion this year but it was great to see all the pictures on Facebook. It’s been a busy year on my end. My youngest daughter got married in the Fall and I am expecting my fourth grandson the end of the summer. It is a blessing to live close enough to enjoy the girls and their families, there is always something going on. Maureen McDonnell-Weschler attended our reunion.  She had a great time and visit with her old roommate Maggie Parks and other classmates.  She especially liked Strawberry Breakfast as the food and décor were great. She has been traveling a lot. Her eldest son, who is a captain in the Army, is currently stationed on a secret and dangerous assignment overseas so prayers would be appreciated. She just celebrated her 36th wedding anniversary. Congratulations to Tyanna Yonkers who earned a Ph.D. in Spirituality from The Catholic University of America in 2014. She was promoted to full professor at the University of Mount Olive in 2015. Her interest in and experience with theatre prompted the President of her institution to appoint her to begin work on the development of a new drama program. She was granted a semester sabbatical this past Spring during which time she explored Contemplative Studies Programs with an eye on incorporating some type of program of this nature at UMO and engage in research at her institution on the impact of contemplative studies on students. Corrine Esher Durdock, P’81, G’16 was at Hodson Gallery in April for the opening reception for her granddaughter Rebecca Rieser’s ’16 Spring Senior Seminar. Rebecca’s art project titled Peaceful Propaganda was exhibited. Karen Robinson Curtis was sorry she missed our reunion but had just traveled to MD to celebrate her daughter Jessica’s Wedding in May. Her eldest son Dale is engaged to be married next spring.  Karen and Mark have both just retired this year. Karen retired from teaching kindergarten for 27 year and Mark from his engineering position in CA.   They just moved to Dallas. Their youngest son Kevin stayed in CA to work at Universal. They are busy settling in and reconnecting with friends and hope to travel more in retirement. Mary Thompson Calhoun had a great time in Frederick with the other class of 1981 Hoodalums, and is looking forward to our 40th class reunion in five years.  She got to visit with her former political science professor, Marge Elfin, who was on campus on for a trustees’ meeting. Mary is staying busy working in the yard and repainting the exterior of the house. She is also volunteering with the Asheville NAACP’s Get Out The Vote voter registration initiative. When she’s not doing that, she is driving up the mountain to see her better half, who is well, and will soon be interviewed by phone for his annual memory assessment with the New England Centenarian Study/Boston University. He is not really looking forward to that interview–he thinks they should come to him, and not be calling him on the phone! Mary had a visit with her Hood roommate, Laura Schauer ’83, who lives in Wilmington, NC and is now a proud grandmother. She is looking forward to hiking around the NC Arboretum in July with Maggie Park who teaches at Converse College. If anyone is heading down south and will be in western North Carolina, they are invited to stop by and see Mary. Things are going well for Stephanie Constantino Chisolm.  Her youngest graduated from George Mason this past December.  She is still in Columbia but now works at the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network. She sees Lisa Kondylas every once in a while. She took a trip into Frederick recently and was impressed by the changes in town and on campus. Leigh Moomaw McBride has been enjoying time with her grandchildren. Her daughter Caity and her family live right on a cove in CT and she loves the opportunity to kayak and do stand-up paddle boarding when she visits them. Her son Christopher and his family are moving this summer to a new home in York, PA., which is close enough that she will babysit her grandsons two days a week.  Leigh and Pat had a magical trip to Paris in April to celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary. Luther Jett shared that his short collection, “Not Quite: Poems Written in Search of my Father,” was published last fall (2015) by Finishing Line Press.

Nothing like the sun to get everyone in a good mood. If you are like me, I am always so thankful to have another winter behind us. I hope you have a wonderful summer. After almost 4 years, I can finally say I feel settled in Indiana. Bill and I downsized into a ranch in a new neighborhood and have made some wonderful friends. We have a corner lot and sit on our patio almost nightly and it seems to be the gathering place. We always have an open bottle of wine to share. My youngest daughter Kaylin is getting married this October so we are in full planning stages. With the three grandsons and baseball starting up again, our weekends will be spent on the ball field this summer. I am still working full time as a senior project manager for a label and packaging company. Linda Wilce Marmer, M.S.’90 is planning a busy summer. In May, Linda and her husband Mike go to the nation’s largest model train show in York, Pa., where they will also go cycling on the rail trail that runs from York to the Maryland line. They will be spending one week cycling on the Great Allegheny Passage rail trail near Ohiopyle, Pa., and one week cycling on the Pine Creek Rail Trail in Wellsboro, Pa. In October, they will spend another two weeks cycling and hiking in and near Acadia National Park in Maine. They go to the Washington Nationals baseball home games on Sundays and fill in with Frederick Keys and other minor league teams. Linda is still working at Sodexo HQ in Gaithersburg on the culinary systems offer development team. She wishes everyone a great summer! Mary Thompson Calhoun has updated us on her amazing husband Calhoun who turned 105 in January. He has been enrolled in Boston University’s New England Centenarian Study. He is one of only 5,000 people in this country age 105 or older. They will be conducting research using his DNA which will be shared and used for decades to come in various Alzheimer’s and other academic studies of age-related illnesses and conditions. Her husband may be a living Fountain of Youth! Leigh Moomaw McBride sent a note about her busy life as a grandma. Spending time in Connecticut with her daughter’s family and her granddaughter Grace and babysitting her son’s family and grandson Levi who will be a big brother come November. Her family keeps growing. She loves the freedom to visit with the kids and travel when she wants as well as play some golf, workout and read. Stephanie Constantino Chisolm just spent some time with Lisa Kondylas up in Baltimore where she was working on a home renovation. She is a “mom-lord” having bought a cute row house that her middle daughter Kate is renting. She became a mother-in-law last fall when Claire, her oldest got married, and welcomed her baby Caroline home from her studies at Oxford. She takes great pleasure in having such great young women in her life. Congratulations to Ken Kerr who has a new position at Frederick Community College as AVP for Academic Affairs/ Dean of Arts and Sciences. Becky Koose Levine shared some exciting news that her son Isaac will be getting married in Baltimore this August. She is looking forward to, at long last, having a daughter. Isaac is finishing up his pre-med requirements at Rutgers. Becky and her husband Yehuda bought their retirement home in Milwaukee and have been spending a lot of time there. The wedding and related festivities will be keeping them busy through the summer. Congratulations to Luther Jett who wrote to say his chapbook of poetry, Not Quite: Poems Written in Search of My Father will be published this summer by Finishing Line Press.

Hope this finds everyone enjoying their summer. We can’t get enough warm weather after that winter we had.  Congratulations to my roommate Leigh McBride who has had a busy spring with the marriage of her son and birth of her second grandchild. Being a grandparent is a true blessing!

Karen Robinson Curtis sent a note to say she just completed her 25^th year of teaching. She celebrated her 33^rd wedding anniversary with a cruise to the Bahamas. Her oldest son, Dale is programming for Google, her daughter has her PhD and works for the National Institute of Aging. Her youngest son is an avid Motocross rider. They will be traveling to Italy this summer for a reunion.

Maureen McDonnell-Weschler celebrated her 35^th wedding anniversary in June. She has a private psychotherapist practice. Her oldest son will be a captain in the Army and and her youngest son is running his own business.

Beth Darroch Coggins is doing well in Dallas Texas. She continues to teach Special Education.  Her oldest daughter Kristina (’81) is pursuing her Master’s degree and her youngest daughter just graduated from college. They will be traveling to Prince Edward Island this summer and Beth is looking forward to meeting up with Becky Lennon Crockett (‘’80), Marcy Kelley Fedali (’79) and Donna Smith Mecca (’81).

Stephanie Chisolm is living in Columbia MD and working for a nonprofit patient advocacy organization.  She recently met up in New Jersey with Lisa Kondylas (’81) and Erika Leeuwenburg (’82). She is looking forward to her daughter’s wedding this fall in DC.

Rebecca (Becky Koose) Levine wrote that her son completed his studies abroad this summer at the Ner Yisrael Rabbinic College and is deciding where to go to complete his pre-med requirements. Her rescue mutt, Minnie, has settled in to her family nicely.

Congratulations to Karen Srsic who wrote saying she finished her second Master’s in Special Education from University of St. Josephs. She has just finished her 9th year teaching special education at Deep River Elementary School in CT. She loves working with her 2nd and 3rd graders. Her oldest daughter, Rachel, graduated from University of Massachusetts in May and is a talented artist working in a local gallery. Her younger daughter, Anna Marie, finished her second year at University of Vermont studying nursing. She would love to hear from her Hood classmates.

Mary Calhoun wrote that all is well in NC. Calhoun continues to thrive at almost 105. She rescued a Siberian husky with Laura Schauer (’81). She got the dog for a family who lost their husky earlier this year.  She wanted us to know that Nina Chomnuk Roberson lost her mother this Spring, our prayers are with Nina’s family.

Dolores Wojcik wrote a note about the books she has written and adventures she has taken.  Her pen name is Dolly Nasby. She just celebrated her 72^nd birthday and after a cruise on the Queen Mary 2 last year to the UK, she is looking forward to taking another “Queens” cruise again soon.  She has published 6 books about local and regional history in the US.  She volunteers with the Jefferson County Black History Preservation Society in Charles Town, WV.

Megan McCall Albright wrote that she has opened a new family business called Auctions on Main in Purcellville, VA. (www.auctionsonmain.com)  Her two sons are in college and ironically she is back in the thick of things raising a little girl cousin and has started to homeschool her.  She keeps in touch with Fran Taylor.

Maggie Park has had an eventful year!  Her third daughter was married in April and she completed her doctorate in May.  Maggie has accepted a position as a professor and the Director of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program at Converse College.  She is looking forward to working with college students and teaching again.  She will have her fourth grandchild this next year.

Sherri Smith Baggett shared news about her hometown, Newtown & Sandy Hook, CT. Many of her Hood classmates have been in touch since December 2012.  She says the community continues to heal each and every day and they are thriving and have grown together in the face of tragedy. A special thanks for those who have sent notes and thoughtful gifts, please know they are appreciated and have been passed on to the community. The outpouring of continued support has been beyond their expectations and helps them move forward each day.

Happy and Healthy New Year to everyone.

Linda Procter wrote about an amazing weekend with Hood friends. They rented a home in Rehoboth at the end of October.  Everyone pitched in and shared favorite food and drink recipes. From the class of 1981, Linda, Marcy Goldberg Taylor and Judy Reamer Egan. And from the class of 1980, Hope Reid, Anita Chase Bartgis, Melissa Warner, and Valerie Cerrone Nelson. They all had a great time catching up and just spending time together.

Corrine Durdock stays connected to Hood through her granddaughter, Rebecca Rieser, a sophomore who plays on the Hood volleyball team. She was able to cheer Rebecca on when Hood played Muhlenburg in Allentown, PA. She is still promoting the sale of the two children’s historical soft-cover books that she authored.

Maria Garvey Tara says she is happy to announce she now has her professional teaching license.  She teaches Spanish and runs the library at a private school in Parker, CO.  Maria’s daughter Kate is a senior in high school and her son Will is a sophomore. Her family spent two weeks in Ireland this summer.

Tracy Fox Zogran runs her own company, Food, Nutrition & Policy Consultants, LLC (www.foodnutritionpolicy.com) working with others to promote nutrition and physical activity policies and programs.  She worked with the First Lady’s Let’s Move effort and has gone to a number of fun events at the White House and elementary schools around the area. Her son, Wesley is teaching English in Moscow and daughter Jody is a Nursing student at Seattle University.  Tracy and her husband Don are beginning to transition their lives to Culver Indiana where Don is heading up the summer school program at Culver Academies. Tracy will be commuting for a while but with the magic of technology, will continue consulting.

Maureen McDonnell-Weschler and her husband Leonard traveled to Australia, New Zealand and many US states. Her youngest son, Christopher met up with them in Branson, Missouri. She had a wonderful visit with her oldest son Leonard, a first lieutenant in the Army, when he came home from overseas for his first visit in three years.

Karen Samboy and her husband own a ranch in the Sierra foothills of Ca. She has been teaching at Ponderosa HS for more than 20 years. Her son, Dan, is in the MA program at USC. Her daughter, Christie has her BS and works at Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.

Rebecca Levine Koose continues to love her job as Administrative Director in the Domestic Program at the McArthur Foundation.  She celebrated her 31^st anniversary in September of her first date with her husband Mark. Her son Isaac is in pre-med studies. She has a new rescue dog, a border collie named Minnie.

Ken Kerr wrote that he and his wife Helen (Rozsics class of ’82) went to Greece and Amsterdam. He is the English Department Chair at Frederick Community College. Classmates who remember his band, The Eyes,” may be interested to know that he is playing a few times a month with a classic rock band called, The Nightcrawlers. His website is mynightcrawlers.com.

Mary Calhoun spent a few weekends with Laura Schauer and had a visit over the summer from Eve Erwin Deitch. Mary is happy to announce that Mr. Calhoun, who will celebrate his 104^th Birthday in January, is thriving and continues to amaze and entertain everyone who meets him.

Desiree Maio wrote about her amazing travel experiences in the late 80’s and early 90’s. She went to graduate school in Virginia Beach and remarried in 1995. She has three daughters with her husband Joe. Elizabeth (15), Hannah (14) and Faith (9). Hannah has Autism and Desiree is thankful for taking some special education classes back at Hood helping her to navigate through Hannah’s education. She would love to hear from Brenda Ryan Ghiltelman ’83, Linda Underhill ‘82 and Melissa Horn ’81.

Linda Spar Rupy is still getting used to living in Indiana, PA. She loves “coming home” to Baltimore with their season tickets to the Ravens. Linda is an online media and Internet consultant.  Linda spent a month in Europe traveling to Budapest and linking up with the American Coaster Enthusiasts’ Central Europe Tour (riding roller coasters there and in Vienna, and throughout Southern Germany). Her favorite ride was Blue Fire in Europapark. She then headed up to Stockholm, London, and Wales for a week. Their son Jason is an engineer in Chandler, AZ. and will be heading there for Thanksgiving this year.

A happy and healthy New Year to everyone. My thoughts turn to those classmates who may have been affected by Hurricane Sandy. Our hearts particularly go out to Leslie Gardner Longo and her family who lost their entire home on the New Jersey shore. I am sure there are more of you out there. Mary Calhoun has taken on a Facebook project of finding Hood classmates and Hoodlums who live along the New Jersey and New York coast who may be in need of help. Laura Jones said she lives about one mile from the beach and luckily had no damage from the storm other than one downed tree. She did have to live through eight days of no power or heat. Laura works at a hospital that had generator power so she went to work every day to get warm and charge her cell phone and Kindle. She said the loss of power was a very small inconvenience compared to what other people experienced.

Mary Calhoun was busy this summer painting the exterior of her home. She had several Hood girls visit her this year, including her Hood roommate Laura Schauer and her daughter Torrie, her other Hood roommate Eve Erwin Deitch, and a former Coblentz Hall neighbor, Marcea Horton Cotter ’82. After three years of hospice care, they have decided her husband no longer needs their service. They simply could not certify him as being in the last stage of his life. In other words, at age 102 (he will be 103 in January), he is too healthy to qualify for hospice care. What a hoot! He continues to amaze everyone. She welcomes anyone from Hood traveling through the mountains of Western North Carolina in 2013 to stop by for a visit. Congratulations to my roommate Leigh Moomaw McBride who will be a new grandma in June. It really is the best job in the world. Leigh is past president of our Hood alumni executive board.

Malinda Small sent a note to let us know she is now the president of the Saint Agnes Hospital Foundation in Baltimore. Her 5-year-old daughter is in kindergarten at Friends School in Baltimore. She recently saw Sharon Gravatt Kulesz at her daughter Lauren’s wedding shower in Virginia. Sharon will be the mother-of-the-bride in a March wedding in South Carolina. Maggie Park shared her big news––she has a new grandson Lloyd Emerson Elihu Nickerson, born in August. Her daughter Molly and her husband Moses have two foster children as well, so they now have a very busy household with three children! Maria Garvey-Tara is a Spanish teacher and librarian at a K-8 school in Parker, Colo. Her daughter is a junior in high school and her son is a freshman. Her husband is a partner in a consulting firm in Denver. They vacationed in Spain this summer and hope to return to Europe next summer.

Beth Darroch Coggins P’11 has spent some time with Donna Smith Mecca, Becky Lennen Crocket ’80 and Marcy Kelley Fedalei ’79, who all enjoyed a relaxing reunion this past July at Marcy’s lake home in South Carolina. They picked right up where we left off over 20 years ago. A special moment was shared as they toasted our beloved classmate Maureen Kelly Hess with a drink and favorite Hood snack. They vowed not to let another 20 years go by before their next get together! Beth and KC have moved into a new home in Prosper, Texas, where she is teaching special education at a middle school. Her daughter Kristina Coggins ’11 is working in the hospitality industry, having finished a season in Alaska, and currently working at Copper Mountain, Colo. Her youngest, Julie, is spending her junior year abroad in Brussels, Belgium, studying international economics and French. Corrine Durdock was an adult education student at Hood and her oldest son Andrew Durdock, M.A.’81 received his master’s degree from Hood. At that time, they were reported to be the first mother-son duo to receive diplomas at the same ceremony. Corrine’s granddaughter Rebecca Rieser ’16, is a freshman at Hood. She is a member of the Blazers’ volleyball team. Corrine lives in Emmaus, Pa., and loves getting immediate information about the team by logging onto the Hood athletic website. The reports and the photos allow her to be a fan of the team even though she cannot be present in the gym.

Rebecca Levine wrote in to tell us that she took a cruise to Alaska this past summer with her husband Yehuda and son Isaac. They stayed in Seattle, Wash., for several days, and enjoyed outdoor adventures and great food. When they returned from the trip, Isaac left for his new yeshiva––Ner Yisroel, in Baltimore. After having to put their beloved dog to sleep this past year, they hope to find another Belgian Shepherd in need of rescue. Rebecca and her husband are planning a trip to England this summer.
