Lots of news to report for our class. First we would like to warmly congratulate Avery Beeson   and Kim Meek ’91 who were married September 25 in a private ceremony that included their dog Skeeter. Congrats Avery & Kim! Olga Vargas-Lester wrote that she moved to Portland, Ore., two years ago. She is working at Education Northwest and her husband opened a Distillery Flooded Fox Den last year. Laura Knight is leaving her position as quality assurance manager at Friendly’s Ice Cream in Massachusetts to become director of a laboratory in Machias, Maine. Deborah Kelly, M.B.A.’10 recently returned to NIH, specifically NCI as a budget analyst. Her daughter Sydney is graduating from high school and will be attending St. Mary’s of Maryland in the fall playing field hockey. Her son Tyler is a sophomore at Linganore High School and her husband Jason is still working at Univ. of Maryland. Angelina Beres Kreiser recently took her daughter to Pittsburgh to look at colleges. While there they had dinner with Lori Voegtly Mizgorski whose daughter will be starting at Temple in the fall. Angela still works at Pennsylvania Dept. of Transportation in human resources and loves it. Gidget Bunnell Valadez recently accepted a new position at MCV Hospital in Richmond, Va., as a registered nurse on the acute pain service team. She is continuing as a student and preparing to graduate in the fall with a bachelor of science degree in nursing. To catch up with our classmates join our Facebook group Hood College 1989 Reunion. The class of ’89 had a great time at the recent Hood Reunion. Approximately 25 people showed up to share in the fun and friendship. Avery Beeson did a great job twisting arms, I mean encouraging alums to attend and it was so good to see everyone. The campus is as beautiful as ever and alums enjoyed everything from strolls around the grounds to the festivities in downtown Frederick and even a wine tour. Stacey Collins and RaeAnn Butler hosted a fantastic happy hour Saturday afternoon and then we all met at the dining hall to dance the night away to some of our favorite tunes including hits from the 80s. One of the highlights was a sweet elderly couple who danced every chance they could and truly “showed us how it was done” as well as connecting with other classes. Special thanks to all the alums who attended. If you are a 1989 graduate you can join our Hood College 1989 Reunion Facebook group to see the photos.

    Hi Everyone-

It seems like this year is flying by as we head into the summer filled with graduations and exciting plans.  Over the past few months, I’ve had an opportunity to catch up with a couple of Hood classmates. In March, we met up with Ambreen Yamin Aziz ’89 and her kids for a quick visit at Downtown Disney at Disneyland in CA. The day was filled with lots of jokes, laughter and a few eye rolls from the kids as we talked about our days at Hood.

Over Spring Break, my daughter and I traveled to Florida and had a great time hanging out with my Hood roommate Donna Parenti Dietrich ’88 and her beautiful daughter Laine. Although we hadn’t seen each other in over 10 years, it was if hardly any time had passed and the bonds are stronger than ever.  We went to the beach, took in the sights in Ft. Lauderdale and just had a wonderful time catching up.

Congratulations to Lisa Buss Evans ’90 and her daughter Maya who will be heading off to the University of South Carolina this fall.  I met Lisa our very first day of Hood, so I’m feeling very sentimental about Maya starting college as it seems like just yesterday that we were at Hood.  Well, maybe not yesterday but definitely not that long ago.

Visiting with these dear friends the past few months, reminds me that the bonds that we form at Hood are strong and life long.  If you have any news that you would like to share with the class, please email me at hoodnews1989@gmail.com or contact me on Facebook. Have a wonderful summer!

Happy New Year to everyone! 2012 was a busy year and I have kept up with many of you on Facebook. I recently received this exciting email from Martha “Rainie” Allison Dasch ’89. Earlier this year, she received the Defense Intelligence Agency’s Director’s Award for Exceptional Civilian Service. Rainie was recognized for her outstanding contributions to the organization, including developing the curriculum and teaching courses related to critical thinking, analysis and writing at the Agency’s Intelligence Training Centers. Rainie has managed to make Hood a family tradition as both her son Thomas Emit Dasch Jr. ’04 and his wife Melissa Janovic Dasch ’04 attended Hood. Congratulations to Rainie and her family. If you have any news that you would like to share, please email me at hoodnews1989@gmail.com or contact me via Facebook.
