Hey there Class of ’99!  For some of us, the summer of ‘19 kicked off with our 20^th class reunion.  From the pictures and posts I saw on Facebook, it was definitely a special time to reconnect and reminisce with long-lasting friendships from our Hood days.  Even if you couldn’t be on campus in person to catch up, at least we can stay somewhat connected through sharing news in this column and reading about what is happening in the life of the College in the other articles and announcements in this magazine.  Thanks to those who have contacted me with the latest updates in their lives; it’s always fun to hear from Hoodlums!  We have several among us who have taken on new jobs or positions that are impressive and noteworthy.  Marissa Vigneault’s big news is that she will be an Andrew W. Mellon Fellow in the Department of Modern and Contemporary Art at The Metropolitan Museum of Art from September 2019 through August 2020.  Christina Tindal recently took a job as Director of Psychiatry for the Henry Ford Health System.   She and her family are living the dream on a beautiful all-sports lake in Michigan…sounds like the ideal work-life balance!  Shawn Ramsey also has moved up the professional ladder having accepted a position as the Chair of Robotic Surgery at Capital Regional Medical Center in Tallahassee, FL.  And, one more: Allison Bell Barrett is now the State Association Meetings Manager at the National Pest Management Association in Fairfax, VA.   Super big congratulations to all of you on your professional achievements!  On the more personal-life front, this past May, Sarah Sweet Knudsen moved her family from Houston, Texas back to the Columbus area in her home state of Ohio.  Her new address is 7431 Cottonwood Dr., Plain City, OH 43064.  Sarah would love to connect with any alums in the area so feel free to reach out to her!  Johanna Lane Nathanson’s son, Samuel, graduated from Drexel University with a degree in Computer Science this past June.  The funny this is, Sam attended our Hood graduation when he was just 3 years old to see his mom get her diploma!  Johanna remembers him all dressed up and enjoying the graduation events; she is glad it was finally her turn to get all dressed up and enjoy his graduation events.  As for me, Anne Hambrick-Stowe Rankin, last August (2018), I underwent a completely successful kidney transplant (donated to me by my brother); now, one year later, I continue to be so grateful for the new life that I was given and the medical expertise & advancements that make such a procedure possible.  I hope this fall is a great one for us all, and, please continue to be in touch with me about your work, your family, your sports, your travels…anything you want to share with the rest of us!  Until next time- take good care.

Hello Class of ‘99!   Happy 2019! Congrats are in order for Stephanie Mellinger, Becky Roman Annacone, and Abigail Bowlsbey Lara! Stephanie was selected to participate in the 4th Cohort of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program in Baltimore, supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies, Johns Hopkins University and other local higher education institutions.  Stephanie and her fellow business owners graduated from the four month program this past August. Becky ran the Mount Washington Road Race (7.6 miles, 4,650 feet elevation, 22% max grade, highest peak in the northeast) on June 16 and the Tough Mudder (10-mile obstacle course) on June 24, 2018. It was a tiring month for Becky but she is anticipating more runs this year! Congrats to Abigail who not only graduated from Hood this past semester earning her MS in Biomedical Science, but she and her husband welcomed their first son, Lucas Ian, in December 13. As for me, Anne Hambrick-Stowe Rankin, last August I had a kidney transplant.  I am glad to report that it was successful and that I am finally fully recovered!  And finally the big question for everyone— who all is planning on attending our 20th reunion this June?! (How has 20 years gone by already!?!)  I hope to see a lot of you there!

Greetings, Class of 1999! It was great to hear from so many of you this time around for our class updates! It is always good to hear about what is happening in your lives. Michelle Chao Pearson is “royally” pleased to announce the arrival of her son, Marshall James Chao Pearson, on Saturday, May 19! Marshall’s 2 big sisters are super excited to have him here and, as you can probably imagine, they are quite the helpers.

Baby Congratulations are also in order to Erin Goodwillie Hantz as she and her husband, Thomas, welcomed baby 4, a little boy named Maxime, on Valentine’s Day. Maxime’s sister and brothers are 13, 10, and 7, and definitely keep everyone on their toes! Erin is still teaching English in Strasbourg, although she is fortunate to be able to enjoy maternity leave until September.

Shannon Desiree Mack graduated from the University of Southern California with a Masters in Public Administration this past May. In attendance at the graduation ceremony were Jamie Szocinski Gillette ’98 and her husband Robert, and Erin Janney Kanner ’00, with her husband Jonah and son Jacob. Jennifer Massagli Morgenthaler ’98, was unable to attend but watched via livestream with her husband Tim and daughter Mia! This is Shannon’s second Masters, the first being a Masters of Science in Forensic Studies, earned in 2011. Way to Go Shannon!

Alison Gregg Dowd is still living in Memphis TN, and continues her work as staff psychologist, Triage/Consult Coordinator for Mental Health Service at the Memphis V.A. Medical Center. When she isn’t working, she fills her time with church, charity work, fishing, and playing with her cats. Alison loves living in Memphis, and offers a warm welcome if you’re passing through!

Becky Roman Annacone wrote in that she has been planning on running the 7.6 mile mountain run at the Mount Washington road race on June 16 and a week later compete in the 10 mile Tough Mudder obstacle course. All I can say is wow…and more power to ya, Becky! Hope it was a rewarding experience for you!

Kelly Poltrok-Germain has recently been promoted to North America Food Safety lead for chocolate and processed cheese within global food safety at Mondelēz International. Mondelēz is the parent company of Nabisco-Cadbury Chocolate and the NA business and R&D center is located in East Hanover NJ. Megan Reeher was promoted to Associate Director Quality Media, Becton Dickinson in Hunt Valley, MD. Megan is also godmother to Kelly’s second son, Owen Kelly Germain, born November 22, 2016. Owen has a big brother, Noah Ryan, born July 22 2014. Kelly, her husband, Ryan, and kids live in Dumont NJ.

Greetings Class of ’99!  I trust you’re all doing well and staying busy!  Alison Gregg Dowd continues to work at the Memphis Veterans Affairs Medical Center, where she has been a Staff Psychologist since 2012. Last February, however, she transferred to a new position within the Center as Triage/Consult Coordinator for Mental Health Service and loves it.  In addition, she has twice accompanied medical teams providing services to Haiti to provide services to St Vincent’s School for Handicapped Children in Port au Prince.  In 2016, she was appointed Cathedral Sacristan at her church, and also serves on the vestry. As if all that isn’t enough, Alison is also trying to remodel her home (even if it is slow going!), and somehow still makes time for fun fishing outings. And for some exciting family news from Sherie Love — Brant Kenny and Sherie were married October 24, 2015 in Hershey, PA.  In attendance were fellow alums Tricia Muir ’00, Jamie Hentz White ’99, Melanie Jacobs Srivisal ’99, Erin McNulty ’99, Stephanie Mellinger ’99, and Laura Schultz ’99.  A little over a year later, she and Brant welcomed their first child, a son named Maxwell, on December 16, 2016.  Congrats Sherie!  My family and I attended the Hood Homecoming festivities this past fall; it is always great to be back on campus, to talk with the current students, to reconnect with other alums, and to watch my own kids enjoy activities on the quad and to cheer on the Blazers on the field!  To submit updates and news for the next magazine, you can email (annehambrickstowe@gmail.com) or text (717-945-4585) me anytime. Hello, Class of ’99!  By the time you read this, summer will be basically over; I’m sure you’ve had some great vacations and time with family and friends.  Please email me with updates so it all can be shared in the next class column; we’d love to hear from you!   For this edition, I only heard from one person…thank you to Michelle Chao Pearson for responding with her news.  Michelle and her husband left Washington, DC for suburban living and built a new house in Clarksburg, MD in 2015. They have two fun and loving daughters, Norah Jane, 4, and Kyla Grace, 2. Michelle stays at home with the girls and works part-time as a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist with a small practice in Maryland; she was trained in neurofeedback in the fall of 2016. Several times a year, Michelle gets together with several other Hood alums: Dawn Griffith ’97, M.A., ’03, C ’03, Crystal Carr Townsend ’97, Christine Farrell Walsh ’98, Jenikka Joy Deering ’98, and April Weaver Bishop.  Most recently, Michelle started working as a Wellness Advocate for DōTerra essential oils.   Until next time, take good care and keep in touch!

I want to start with a shout-out to Amy Countryman Stavely who was our class reporter since we graduated 17 (gasp!) years ago! Thank you! And, for now, I am happy to take this over; if you have updates, feel free to email or text them to me for future class notes! Speaking of Amy, in February, she returned to work as the financial secretary/office manager at Nichols-Bethel UMC in Odenton, MD. While it has been rewarding for her to be back at work outside the home, it has been a real adjustment. She is also serving as vice regent for the Anne Arundel Chapter, NSDAR in Crownsville, MD. She and her husband are actively working to preserve the c. 1753 historic farmhouse/tavern that they own. She says it has been an eye-opening experience learning about everything involved in historic preservation! Marissa Deener, M.S.’05 married Major Scott Brocious on June 4, 2016, at which point she became an instant mom to his three sons: Isaac, Noah and Luke. Marissa is beginning year 18 of teaching for Washington County Public Schools, MD. Jessica Palazzi lives with partner Tony and their two children in North Bethesda, MD. Son Henry turned 6 around thanksgiving, and daughter Molly turned 3 in the fall. Both are happy (but sometimes naughty!) kids that keep them on their toes! Jessica is still employed by Booz Allen Hamilton where she is now an intelligence analyst. This will be Jessica’s 18th year with the firm. She and her family love to travel and most recently have been spending long summers in Taiwan and Japan where the children get the chance to spend time with their paternal grandparents, who live in Taipei. Heather Howell married Timothy Wescott on Aug. 13, 2016, in a beautiful outdoor ceremony in Parrott, VA. Angela Foshee ’00 was maid of honor. Heather and Tim currently reside in Seattle, WA, with beloved dog Stitch. Congratulations, Heather! Congratulations are also in order to Kelly Poltrok-Germain who had her first son, Noah Ryan, on July 22, 2014, and recently had her second son, Owen Kelly, on Nov. 22, 2016. She and husband Ryan live in Dumont, NJ, outside on NYC. Megan Reehee will be Owen’s godmother when he is christened in 2017. In spring 2015, Marissa Vigneault accepted a tenure-track position as assistant professor of art history at Utah State University. She is now living with husband Bill and daughter Harper in lovely Logan, UT, surrounded by amazing national parks and the best winter skiing! Sounds like she’s living in prime vacationland! Helen Libby enjoyed being back on campus this past summer, and has been busy publishing a book chapter in “Injury Models of the Central Nervous System.” She guided a blind triathlete at the World Championship, Australia, and the Japan International Triathlon Union races and at U.S. Olympic Paratriathlon Development Camp. She is also scheduled to guide a blind runner at a Houston marathon in January 2017. Whew! As for me—husband Chris and I were married in 2014, live in Lancaster County, PA, have 3 kids (Zachary Ruslan, 9, Rachel Sunshine, 7, and Andrew Malachi, 11 months), and stay busy with running the older two to sports practices and games, music and dance lessons, cuddling with the younger one, as well as with church activities and with my work as a parish administrator. 2015 has been a busy year for me, Amy Countryman Stavely. Between school, volunteering and the kid’s (Alexander is now 12-years-old and Ellie will be 3-years-old in July), I am rarely home. It all seems to be paying off though, because in April, I was awarded the Outstanding Volunteer Awards by Anne Arundel County Council of PTAs. What’s even more exciting is seeing a long term project come to fruition. For the last year, I’ve been working with Odenton Elementary School to help raise money for a new playground and in May, the Anne Arundel County Board of Education approved the installation of our new playground. I’m excited to see it go in this summer and hope that come August, when school starts, the students will be just as excited to play on it! For now, it’s Rugby season so I’ll be sweating away in the hot sun, but it’s worth it to see my oldest play. I hope your 2015 has treated you well and I look forward to hearing your news soon! Melanie Jacobs Srivisal was married April 20, 2013 to Darin Srivisal outside of Pittsburgh, Pa. Her maid of honor was Laura Schultz. The wedding was attended by Jamie Hentz White, Sherie Love, Jen Martin McDermott, Erica Falk Grenada, Erin McNulty, Tricia Muir ’00 and Meg Kula ’01. They currently live in Montgomery Village, Md. Most importantly, on Feb. 2, 2014, they welcomed daughter Kaylee Gwendolyn into the world. They are so in love with her!

Lisa Anne Schivley Hendrix graduated from Salem College in December 2013 with her master of arts in teaching degree in secondary mathematics education. Ruth Edmunds Rossi and her husband Chris had a baby boy, Elijah Sherman, on Feb. 13, 2014.

Hi all, its been a fun six months since we last “spoke” and my how its flown.  My oldest, Alexander, is just finishing 4th grade and my youngest, Ellie, is about to turn 1 year old on July 8th!  When I’m not running all over creation with the kids, I’m working on my cake business and volunteering at church.  We have a busy summer ahead of us full of summer camp, birthday parties and day trips … I hope everyone’s summer is equally as exciting.  And now the news from our classmates …

Kelli Jessum Rokita ’99 is still teaching 1st grade and living in Gilbertsville, PA.  She and John continue to keep busy with the roller coaster ride of having 3 yr old twins (Kiley & Tommy)!

Pamala Washington ’99 recently married Emilee Frost in a inspirational seaside wedding in York Harbor Maine, April 14, 2012.  In attendance were, Holly Rebert Ray ’00, Kenya Ray ’99, Cheron Jones ’00, Danika Hernadez Stubbs ’99 and Angela Watson ’99 (in spirit).  Pamala & Emile currently reside with their 2 teenage sons, Porter (16) and Justin (15) in Saco Maine and says she can’t believe her babies are all grown up!  She currently manages the Maine Adult Drug Treatment Court and is continuing to take graduate classes toward her Masters In Public Policy.

Allison Bell Barrett ’99 just recently got married to Sean Barrett in Middletown, MD on April 27 2013. Patricia Vauls played viola during our ceremony. And the following Hoodlums were in attendence: Jennifer LaMonica Jackson ’02 , Tele Tarpeh ’02, Betty Gebreselassie, Stephanie Gordy Clark  ’98, and Jessica Palazzi ’99. They went to Ireland for their honeymoon and had a wonderful time. They currently reside in Arlington, VA with their cat, Tobago.

Word comes from Margaret Farmer ’99 that Erin Lenzing ’99 married Ricky Petrone, of Walpole on November 16, 2010. The wedding took place at the outpatient rehab facility where they first met, and was attended by Margaret Farmer ’99, Becky Roman-Annacone ’99, and Heather Liska ’99. The two look froward to moving in together when Ricky finishes his sentence. Margaret also notes that she recently returned from a medical volunteer trip in Zanzibar where she assisted in inoculating the local people.
